The making of Maren Hassinger: Living Moving Growing (in reverse order). What’s overflowing right now is just so much gratitude—it has been the honor of a lifetime to work on this retrospective of @marenhassinger and give her long-deserved flowers (may they keep coming)! @margotnorton @grahamrecently thank you so much for all the hours and memories working on this show. It is the most incredible team I have ever worked with and I have learned something from you both every single day!! The community Maren has nurtured over her career and that has nurtured her is present across the show and filled our museum with such energy and love this weekend @avahassinger @colepalatini @lowerysims @doctorkelliejones @senganengudi @leslieking_hammond @lindagoodebryant

Yesterday we opened Maren Hassinger: Living Moving Growing @bampfa 🌱🪢💖
It has been a dream to realize this exhibition of an artist whose works have transformed me since I first saw them — to bring her pieces together and allow for connections across her practice, tell her story, and ultimately assert her dynamic place in the history of contemporary art. And there has been no greater joy than to collaborate with so many on an exhibition, that would at its core showcase all of the ways that Maren has brought people together throughout her career.
My thanks to all (there are so many and my post is too long 😂) in the comments ⬇️✨

A few snaps from our gorgeous opening weekend, celebrating the five decade collaboration and friendship of legends Maren Hassinger and Senga Nengudi at @columbusmuseum @the_pizzuti . Still integrating all the feelings! Las Vegas Ikebana is now on view, until Jan 11.

Eternally grateful to the artists, to the phenomenal team at the Columbus Museum of Art, especially Danny Marcus, Rae Root and Brooke Minto @among_other_activities @raeroot @_brookeminto_ , to the brilliant performers and friends keyon gaskin and @sidony_oneal , to @lindagoodebryant , the @cooleygallery @pacific_pacific , and everyone who came out in celebration. More to come! ⭐️✨💐⭐️💌

Las Vegas Ikebana: Maren Hassinger and Senga Nengudi is here! 💌💌💌Finally caught up on sleep but still living on the gorgeous energy from our opening week celebrations. Senga and Maren’s radiant friendship and collaborations brought us all together into an infinite web of connections—with unforgettable words by Dr. Leslie King Hammond and Dr. Lowery Stokes Sims, and dances by keyon gaskin and sidony o’neal. Much more to say and share…but for now, please see the show @cooleygallery ! Up until May 19.

among the images here:

Senga and Maren seeing the exhibition together for the first time / Leslie’s legendary impromptu performance on Senga’s seesaw with keyon and sid / Leslie minutes before the performance started / Maren installing a veil of silk that catches wind behind a new collaborative ikebana sculpture / Maren’s ball of knotted newspaper made with her stadium audience / Senga leading her audience in a “verbalong” / Senga and Maren sitting in the exhibit, smiling. An illuminated sign behind them reads “long, strange journey.” (What a long strange journey it’s been).
