¿Quiénes somos?

Vivir en el extranjero, lejos de nuestra patria, muchas veces nos lleva a cuestionar nuestra identidad, especialmente cuando los demás nos perciben de manera diferente. Pero quizás ahí mismo encontremos la respuesta: ¡todos somos diferentes y esa es nuestra riqueza!

A veces nos parecemos, compartimos costumbres o coincidimos en nuestras ideologías. Otras veces, nuestras diferencias nos hacen únicos. Sin embargo, hay algo que nos une por encima de todo: somos seres humanos.

En el Día de los Muertos en Philly, celebramos nuestras tradiciones, honramos nuestras raíces y abrazamos la diversidad que nos hace únicos. Porque nuestras diferencias no nos separan; nos enriquecen y nos unen.

Celebramos nuestras raíces, honramos nuestras historias y compartimos nuestra humanidad. 💀🌼🧡

El Día de los Muertos 2026

¿Saben que esta tradición es bien antigua? Se originó en la época prehispánica en Mesoamérica, combinando rituales indígenas con el calendario católico tras la llegada de los españoles. Ahora lo celebramos lejos de nuestras patrias pero honrando a nuestras raíces y a nuestros difuntos queridos, los cuales regresan para compartir el día y la noche con nosotros. ¡Únanse a nuestras celebraciones!

Comenzamos a las 11AM con la @aemphilly en la Calle 9 y las celebraciones de Fleisher comienzan a las 4PM.

This week we’re talking prints, politics, and the beautiful chaos of building the plane while you fly it ✈️

We had a chat with Lauren Rosenblum, curator at @ThePrintCenter, and Gustavo Garcia, printmaker, photographer, and all-around creative multi-hyphenate, to talk about America Today: Voices in Contemporary Print, a group show pulling together forty artists from six printmaking workshops across the country, all grappling with what it means to be American right now, 250 years in.

Gustavo takes us behind the curtain on what it actually takes to make an edition: the layers, the color trials, the moments where the whole plan changes because the press breaks, and somebody just has to know how to run a screenprint. Spoiler: that somebody was him.

We also get into his journey from growing up in Mexico to studying at Tyler, and how printmaking became his way of holding onto and reinterpreting where he came from. Catch America Today at The Print Center before it closes at the end of July, and don’t miss their Community Printmaking Day on July 11th at Brandywine Workshop. 🎨

Today we are installing “Alfarero Del Barrio” @madsqparknyc made by the incredible people at @johnsonatelierdigital @groundsforsculpture This fire hydrant is an ode to growing up and playing on a hot day. Making the best out of one’s circumstances. It’s a reminder of our ancestors being hosed down to protest for the freedom we have. The freedom to make art, to protest, to speak. Thank you ancestors but this one; this one is for my dad @gilban777 who used to have the monkey wrench that would open the hydrant for all the neighborhood kids. Dad you showed me the way, now it’s time for me to get back on my feet and show the world what time it is. Thank you to @colibriworks @gustavo.garcia3 @joeronca all my team, my family, my kids and everyone who believed in me.

This week I attended @muralarts Wall Ball to honor Jane Golden @janegoldenmuralarts There are so many stories I can tell, but one thing that I admire about Jane is her dedication, commitment, and love for our city and our artists. I have grown in my artistic practice while Mural Arts expanded to the international presence in the world of public art. Jane believed in me as a young artist over 25 years ago. Our relationship has been built on respect and honesty. What a gift to have Jane in our city and the legacy she has built. Wall Ball was an evening to connect with community and to give our flowers to the giant that is Jane Golden. ❤️

📝Meet José Ortiz-Pagán, a recent recipient of the prestigious Pew Arts Grant.

He learned the news on an otherwise ordinary day. While shopping with his family at Walmart, he checked his phone and found an email announcing that he was one of just 12 Philadelphia artists selected to receive $85,000 in unrestricted funding.

The moment felt so surreal that he spent nearly half an hour wandering the aisles in disbelief.

Ortiz-Pagán has long been involved with community organizations such as Taller Puertorriqueño and Fleisher Art Memorial, grounding both his artistic and spiritual practice in communities like Fairhill and Kensington.

His work has been featured in major exhibitions including the San Juan Poly/Graphic Triennial, the Taiwan International Print Biennial, the Bronx Latin American Art Biennial, and his solo exhibition “Umbral” at the Berman Museum.

April marks Second Chance Month, a time to recognize the importance of reentry and creating meaningful pathways forward.

“Uplift Justice” by Shepard Fairey (@obeygiant) reflects on the ideals of justice and our collective responsibility to build a more inclusive future.

Mural Arts advances this work through our Restorative Justice program, supporting returning citizens and justice-impacted individuals through art, workforce development, and community connection.

This Second Chance Month, we’re reminded that art can open doors to healing, connection, and new beginnings because everyone deserves the opportunity to move forward!
