THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE I WENT TO DUBAI 🇦🇪

I’ve somehow ended up passing through the UAE many times over the last few years so have learnt a lot of tips from misconceptions I had before!

1) It doesn’t have to be expensive! - yes Dubai is known for luxury but there is tons of free things to do. The obvious is to visit the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa, there is a fountain show outside every 30 mins (I recommend the time out market for a good viewing spot!). Next to there is Dubai Mall which is an attraction in itself with an aquarium, china town, foundations etc. For a more authentic shopping experience there is Old Dubai and Souk Madinat.

2) Hiring a car can save a lot of money - taxis can add up in Dubai, fares can triple in busy times and I’ve had many taxis cancel last minute with me. I rented a car for £15 GBP per day on booking .com from the airport!

3) Dubai is a very spread out city so I’d advise to base yourself in a few places - do half your trip near the Burj Khalifa (business bay) and half closer to the marina and beaches (JBR). My go to for accommodation is @colife.ae they have apartments all over Dubai that you can rent on a short term basis!

Other tips:
- Dubai is a lot more progressive and modern in its views than many other Muslim cities. You will see people wearing dresses or shorts etc but I still advise people to wear modest clothes out of respect.
- E Sims don’t work so my advise is to download a VPN to get the e sim before you arrive. Or you can get a physical sim at the airport when you arrive
- if it’s your first time in UAE don’t use the E Gate at the airport, you need to go to the desk!
- WhatsApp calls also get blocked so use a VPN
- Book attractions in advance during busy periods like school terms
