@mjlenderman played a free show today in Durham, NC and it was awesome. He (and his really great band) played some oldies and some non-oldies (new songs) and it was just a really special show. Some might say historic 🤷🏻‍♂️

Shoutout @goodmoon.nc for putting on a wonderful fest in this town 🌙

Supporting was the great @_rodrigo_amarante who was also incredible. He’s also in Little Joy and Los Hermanos.

PS the new songs are so good

‘Southervisions’ is available now wherever you listen to music!

Southervisions took me back down to the bayous of Southeastern Louisiana to unpack my relationship with my dad, his family, and the state they call home.

Growing up, we took a three-day Amtrak ride every year to spend our Summer break in a small town on the Mississippi River near where my dad grew up. His family took us on swamp tours and paddleboat rides and taught us how to catch crawfish and crabs along ditches and spillways. They introduced us to boudin and beignets and alligators and Mardi Gras.

Last year, I found myself writing about the unique experience of growing up half-Cajun on the Central Coast of California, and the near-universal experience of trying to understand my father as I enter middle age.

Dozens of new songs were written and demoed over the span of a couple months last summer and recorded in my home studio with my friend Anton Josef Kellner (Ambergrove), who helped me distill a large batch of alt-country and folk songs into a more cohesive and accessible record full of pedal steel, fiddle, banjo, dobro, mandolin, fretless bass, and singing saw.

Southervisions is a musical documentary of my family, a meditation on heredity, and a travelogue of the Deep South, and I’m very proud to finally share these stories with you.

Fais do-do!
