'The Clouds are Gathered for the Final Storm' is out today

this is my first electronicy album which i have been working on since last year - it is on bandcamp (so you can support by purchasing) + streamers + CD (if you would like one reach out - I literally hand wrote everything on it!) and i put the link in bio

think field recordings, samples, analogue-ish synthesiser sounds, a bit of my rough(!) vocals, + accordion

Hope you can sit with the three works on this record and you can find liner notes on bandcamp:

1. Bondi
2. Break(ing)down
3. The clouds are gathered for the final storm

and a special thank you to @mt_wilson_artist_in_residence
and @bundanontrust for having me in residency where the bulk of this album was developed and recorded

"The three works on this record each have a seriousness to them and some kind of “life under existential pressure” theme to them - like life being confronted by finality, wrestling with what could possibly come next. This album is also united by a soundworld that’s somewhat ambient yet narrative-driven with harmonic synthesisers and processed samples. They’re also all born from improvisations that I’ve distilled into structures."

All music composed and performed by Ronan Apcar
Cover art by Ronan Apcar and Josh Green
'Bondi' and 'The clouds are gathered for the final storm' mixed by Ronan Apcar
'Break(ing)down' mixed by @nickwalesmusic
Mastered by Michael Lynch
Field recordings & samples by Ronan Apcar, Peter Virag, Marc Anderson, Elektron Digitakt II factory library, and BBC Sound Archive
Album title and interpolated melody in 'The clouds are gathered for the final storm - V. Final storm' by @billfayofficial

Supported by the Love Supreme grant from the @anuschoolofmusic and developed on residency at @mt_wilson_artist_in_residence and @bundanontrust

Break(ing)down is out on bandcamp today :) and will be on other streaming services later this month. Have a listen, i put a link in the bio to make it easy. And then if you like it you can do the old fashioned thing of buying the record xx

this EP is part of an album that will come out in October!

---

'Break(ing)down' sits in the middle of two extremes. Zoom in and you find awe-inspiring microorganisms breaking down detritus and completing the cycle of life; zoom out and we are faced with the cataclysmic breakdown of ecosystems and life on Earth currently held together by busy little bacteria and fungi.

The tension between two sides of the same coin: breaking down and breakdown. This EP explores these contradictions and parallels in a three-part structured improvisation using synthesisers and samples of the Australian bush.

'Break(ing)down' was inspired by and made in Mount Wilson, NSW, and its extraordinary variety of fungi growing there. With special thanks to @mt_wilson_artist_in_residence, and the ANU Love Supreme Grant, courtesy of Susan Grace, for supporting the creation of this work.

Composed, performed, and recorded in May 2025 by Ronan Apcar
All field recordings and samples by Ronan Apcar, except magpie (Peter Virag) and pied currawong + eastern whipbird (Marc Anderson)
