If I had a nickel for every half-marathon I’ve ran,
I’d have two nickels… which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice (within two months)
+ life recently

When I turned 6 years old, my brother’s band, “The Little Big Band,” played at my house party.

Tonight, on my 50th birthday, my brother’s band, “The Atomic Cafe,” played at Roger’s Roost in Sterling.Heights, MI.

John Christy was there 44 years ago. He’s on bass.

My cousin Keri was there back then and tonight. My brother Todd was also there for both of these monumental evenings.

My best buddy Phil is on trombone and his wife Marlene, sister Kris, and her daughter Ella were all there to make the night a raucous one. They’re family.

My college roommate and WIDR 89.1 FM co-host Mark “The Colonel” Trexler and his lovely wife Katie came to celebrate with us in Mark’s home town. They’re also family.

We started and ended the evening with our good friends Jon and Michelle Schwab with stops in Plymouth beforehand. Jon and I worked at Star Theatre in Taylor when we were in college and we’ve been band camp dad roommates the past 6 years. Family.

And, of course, my wife and son were there every step of the way (My daughter would have been, too, but it’s Michigan’s Band Week)!

So, it’s a big full-circle night and one heck of a way to kick off the next decade!
