My painting "From across the valley" (sold!) was inspired by scenes like this. When our kōwhai starts flowering, we get daily visits from korimako (bellbirds) - at least when the tūī give them a chance!

Heading south this long weekend? See it in person at @colourandlightgallery 💜✨️

54 Clyde Street, Balclutha
Open Tues to Fri 10am-4pm/Sat 10am-2pm

Couldn't make it to the opening? Come to my artist talk!

You'll hear about how my garden has inspired this collection (it is National Gardening Month after all!) and more about my up, down & roundabout journey to becoming an artist✨️

Apparently I am "a delight to listen to"🙏🏽

The talk starts 1pm, Wednesday 14 October at Balclutha Community Library.

A huge thanks to Belinda Mason for hosting my solo exhibition at her fabulous gallery, @colourandlightgallery, and to those who visited over the weekend. Thank you🙏🏽

With a focus on photography, I haven't shared much of my painting - so it's been nerve-wracking to have this collection on show! My garden has been a lifeline for me over the years and this is a very special collection.

(Read more about this in my pinned post).

Last day to view is 30th October, at Colour + Light Gallery, 54 Clyde Street, Balclutha.

You can also come to my artist talk at 1pm, Wednesday 14th October at the Balclutha Community Library.

Some details from one of my favourite pieces in this collection (yes I know I shouldn't have favourites!). I love the yummy textures, and the vibrant colours were an antidote to the short daylight hours of winter when this was painted.

The collection is one of joy, celebrating little moments (and colourful visitors) in the garden.

Come celebrate with me at the opening from 6pm this Friday 2nd October at @colourandlightgallery.

You will see a few older works mixed in amongst the new ones at my @colourandlightgallery painting exhibition.

I was aiming for all new works, but there some older ones that fit perfectly (and were actually part of my exhibition proposal, way back in December last year).

The two on the top right were painted en plein air (outside) and very much process-driven - playing with media, lines, patterns, layering & the question of how I could translate how I felt on to paper. At the very top is "Forest Bathing", a personal favourite from my daily painting challenge in 2022, painted while I was desparately missing the ngahere of the Waitākere Ranges.

And of course the tussock ringlet butterfly painting is a new one - expressive, joyful, celebratory.

"Garden Views" opens 6pm, Friday 2nd October at @colourandlightgallery in Balclutha.

My solo painting exhibition "Garden Views" opens soon at @colourandlightgallery in Balclutha🌸

Please join us for opening night from 6pm, Friday 2nd October🥂✨️

It's a celebration of my garden - the joy it has brought me over the years, the birds & critters🦋🐝 who keep me company, the colourful flowers, and learning to grow with the seasons (see my pinned post for more about the 'why').

It also marks 10 years since my last (and only other) solo painting show, which was back when I was living in Tāmaki/Auckland.

Colour + Light Gallery is owned by artist @belindatheballerina , at 54 Clyde St, Balclutha. See @colourandlightgallery for more details.

A little detail from my painting WIP (which I thought was finished, but I now see I haven't finished the eye or the legs!).

For my garden-inspired solo exhibition opening Fri 2nd Oct at @colourandlightgallery.

Now that "Little Lives" is over (and I have caught up on rest!), here's what's coming up:

- I have a suitcase in the "Suitcase Stories" fundraiser at @chapter.rhq in Sydenham, Ōtautahi. It's a unique crossover between art + fashion and I'm stoked to be a part of it! Suitcase artists are a secret until the big reveal on 30 August, so if you can tell which one's mine - don't tell!🙊
I'll share more over the coming weeks💼

- I am finishing up the paintings and getting ready for my solo exhibition at @colourandlightgallery in Balclutha. It's a colourful celebration of the joys our gardens bring🦋 Opening Fri 2nd October at 6pm. Super excited to share this with you!✨️

- And for the next two weeks I'll be working with East Otago High School students, this time exploring portrait photography, followed by an exhibition at Palmerston Library.
