This week on the Granite Zero Podcast, we’re joined by Andile aka Denzel — a man with 12 years of service in the British Army and a story that goes far beyond the uniform.

Currently serving with the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, Andile has spent time in Rifle Platoons across 4 Coy and 2 Coy, as well as the Reconnaissance Platoon in 3 Coy.

His military career has taken him across the world, including Oman, Belize, Thailand, Kenya, the Falkland Islands, Louisiana 🇺🇸, Nigeria and Burundi, as well as a deployment to Iraq on Op Shader from 2019–2020.

He’s also represented the Infantry on the rugby pitch, served as a Section Commander at Guards Training Company, and played a key role in training the next generation of soldiers at Infantry Training Centre Catterick.

Now, after 12 years in the Army, Andile is taking on his next challenge — stepping into the world of entrepreneurship and building his new clothing venture, Beyond Sight.

From military life and overseas deployments to leadership, sport, transition and building something of his own — this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Elite athletes are incredible to watch but to me they’re not inspiring!

That might come across as quite a bold statement but I think a lot of you will probably agree that you’re more inspired by your mates that are absolutely smashing it

Let me tell you exactly why these 2 inspire me so much..

It’s got fuck all to do with being the fastest, strongest or best athlete in the room

They’re normal blokes with full time jobs, families to look after, responsibilities galore, shit going on in their lives and plenty of reasons why training could quite easily get pushed down the list

Yet week after week they keep showing up and doing just that

Early morning sessions before work

Training at unsocialable hours when nobody’s around

Doing boring shit, missing lifts & having shit weeks

Having to change stuff last min when life gets in the way

Then getting up & doing it again

Eventually all of that unremarkable work starts creating some pretty remarkable outcomes

Charles has gone from feeling completely lost & out of shape to competing at ATHX, completing a Backyard Ultra & taking on one of the toughest obstacle courses in Europe

Adam has gone through his own transformation entirely & continues to put himself in situations that demand more from him

But probably my favourite part is what has happened between them

They’ve pushed each other, supported each other & competed alongside one another and made each other better!!!

That’s the power of community & both of them have said at different points that they think I lead by example

I think they’ve got that completely fucking wrong

The coaching team can create the environment through the programming, education all the way through to accountability BUT none of it works unless the person in front of us decides to do the fucking work

THATS THEM

Thats why I’m so proud of these 2

They’ve become far more capable versions of themselves while still being husbands, dads, working professionals, mates & everything else in the middle

They are not following any example to be honest…they very much ARE the example and to me that’s more inspiring then those that get paid to be fit🙏🏻

I am not in this for followers, likes and attention… (ok maybe the attention) … #onlychild

But I do know that marketing these days relies on exposure and reach.

10k followers has happened… and to have that reach is an enabler to keep doing what I am doing.
