@commiebop , @wesconfab The Commie Bop (@commiebop on instagram), hosted at the Mint Restaurant in Victoria. Some impromptu performance; idea came up to do some improv backing for some of the fools cards cuts without the beats playing out of the tablets. My thanks to the wonderful musicians (Wes Carroll on the guitar and Tom Pedrick on the bass for track 2) that came up to play! I think I might have to make a habit out of this :)

ICYMI!! Commie Bop x AB Vic: June 16, 2026 The Commiebop x Anakbayan Victoria open mic was a succesful night where creatives expressed their solidarity against colonial capitalism through the arts, and where Anakbayan launched our campaign, Filipino Youth Unite Against Facism (FYUAF). With this campaign, we aim to address the impacts of imperialism on Filipino youth and the working class living in the Philippines and in the diaspora by understanding their conditions and educating, agitating, and mobilizing the masses. Ultimately, we plan to advocate for the Filipinos struggling globally, and it would not be possible without the support from our community. If you are curious and supportive of our causes and the work of Anakbayan, we continue to hold events to further educate people on ongoing issues in the Philippines and we are happy to accept material support. Our shared struggles call for collective action! Makibaka! Huwag matakot!

Much gratitude to all the amazing folks who are organizing in this city. These are my humble thoughts about arts, and affordability. This post is not aimed to criticize the kind and dedicated work that is happening at The Coda so please don't read it as such. The next @commiebop open mics are on Nov 6 with @tashacadence and myself hosting for @bcflyingsquad and December 11 with @buckmancoe and I hosting for @victoriatenantsunion . Come on out and let's share our imaginations for a more equal, artistic, and just world ❤️❤️❤️ . at The Mint from 7-10pm by donation.
