We made a SUPRISE visit to Middleton Plantation for their Juneteenth Lunch Party ... ❌❌❌❌ - GOOD NEWS: We talked with Middleton CEO Dana Evans afterwards. Evans seemed like a overall nice lady who said she 'may be willing to attend a public conversation w/ elected officials on land reparations' 👀🏡🤝🏾🖤 - BAD NEWS: She hasn't responded to none of our emails since... 😐👻 - 🚨ACTION ITEM🚨 Call Middleton Plantation ➡️ (843) 556-6020 - Ask them this simple question ➡️ "Why hasn't Middleton Foundation CEO Dana Evans responded to Charleston Reparations Task Force request for a public meeting?" 📲 - We welcome folk to also ask @middletonplacefoundation on their most recent post & tag them below 📝📝📝 - The descendants of Gullah Geechee & African enslaved peoples are looking forward to this timely conversation. There is no time to waste ⏳❌ - #Reparations #Charleston #MiddletonPlantation #Juneteenth #BlackPower

A visit to @theravenjax — a boutique hotel and adaptive reuse project inside the former historic Lawton Pratt Funeral Home at the edge of LaVilla in Downtown Jacksonville. The structure holds a deep and layered history tied to Jacksonville’s Black history and cultural legacy. Most notably, after the tragic death of Bessie Coleman in 1926, the Lawton Pratt Funeral Home handled Coleman’s funeral arrangements. Bessie Coleman is recognized as the first Black woman and first Native American woman to earn and hold an international pilot’s license. Coleman died in Jacksonville following a plane crash over then Paxon Air Field (now the site of Paxon School for Advanced Studies) on Jacksonville’s Westside. Today, the building has been thoughtfully reimagined rather than demolished, preserving both architecture and memory in a part of Downtown that has lost so many historic structures over time. Spaces like this show how adaptive reuse can protect Jacksonville’s stories while still creating new energy and investment in the urban core. Projects like this prove what’s possible. Kudos to @theravenjax , @stayslvrst , and @avantbuilds for their great work on bringing this to the finish line! It is truly beautiful and breathtaking! If you ever have a chance, book your next staycation in downtown Jax @theravenjax #adaptivereuse #dtjax #lavilla #rootin4jax #jaxfl
