A week ago today and I’m still thinking about this room.

I asked how many of them think of having fun when they think of writing a book. Crickets. And I was like, you guys. It’s supposed to be fun. It’s supposed to be easy. That’s how I teach and that’s how I coach.

We’re all posting on social media every day, and social media changes every three seconds. Books last forever. It’s your legacy. It’s your identity. It’s your platform. It’s your authority.

But the part I can’t stop thinking about is what happened after. People came up to me and told me their stories. Everything from spending a decade in prison to being secretly pregnant to being raised by an illiterate immigrant parent to being an adult entertainer.

That’s why I love story so much. It’s an equalizer. Whether you’re a billionaire or you’re homeless, we all face the same human experience. Stories bring us together.

Stories are beautiful. People are beautiful.
