Champions on the Rise Fall Festival! 🎾🎃

Professional Development Day #2 was spent back at the LEGACY Center where students from all 4 of LEGACY’s Champions on the Rise programs came together to play tennis and enjoy a wonderful day together at this year’s Fall Festival!

Thank you to the Mayor’s Office of Education as these students could spend the day with us instead of at home through the Extended Day Extended Year program!

We are so grateful to @philadelphiaeagles and @flyfwd_athletics for their donation of 200 sports bras to our @frankfordhs athletes! This support eliminates barriers for our girls to access not just their sport, but also the confidence, resilience, wellness, and belonging that comes with being on a sports team. @communityschoolsphl

📚❤️ TWO LANGUAGES. DOUBLE THE POWER! ❤️📚

What better way to celebrate the closing of Hispanic Heritage Month than with a story that reminds us to embrace the beauty of our culture, language, and identity? 🇵🇷✨

Dr. Carrera visited the amazing second graders at Cramp Elementary School for a special read-aloud of Plátanos Go With Everything! 🍌📖

Dr. Carrera reminded students that being bilingual is a SUPERPOWER! 💪🏽🌎Speaking more than one language opens doors, builds connections, and allows us to celebrate the richness of who we are. Our languages are part of our stories, our families, and our communities — and that is something to be proud of! ❤️💛

As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month, let’s continue celebrating the voices, cultures, and contributions that make our communities stronger every day. ¡Que viva nuestra cultura! 🎉🇵🇷

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I find myself reflecting deeply on what it means to me and to so many in my community.

We are a community that shows up for one another. We care for each other, support each other, and find ways to keep going, even when things aren’t easy. We work hard, with dignity, resilience, and so much pride in who we are and where we come from.

I see it every day. I see it in my family, in my peers, and in the students I have the privilege of working alongside. I see our strength in the way we show up for one another, the way we create opportunities, and the way we continue to lift each other up.

I am proud to represent a community that refuses to give up, that remains rooted in its values, and that understands the power of standing together. Our stories, our sacrifices, our culture, and our love for one another are what make us who we are.

We are here. We belong. And we will continue to move forward together.

For Hispanic Heritage Month, we had the honor of welcoming Dr. Carrera to George Washington High School! She has been a great inspiration to so many Latinos and Latinas throughout her career as an educator and now serves as the Chief Education Officer for the Mayor’s Office.

A special shoutout to one of our ISA leaders, Natalia Brito, for conducting this interview and helping us highlight the stories and accomplishments of inspiring Latino leaders in our community.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! ❤️💛💚💙 #communityschools #MOE #gwhs
