POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Complex was literally so complex 🥁

Last year at @complexdancecompetition @tap.in.official just hosted a freestyle battle. This year we did way more.

1. We ran the official choreo comp judging through Tap.In with @wrencrisologo, @laurenbism, and @dielondielondielon. Wren called it “nice and quick and easy” and “super smooth,” and liked not doing the calculations. Dillon said it was super easy for him to fully give his thoughts to each competing team.

2. We added a Crowd Favorite award for the choreo teams. 291 people voted and left messages. Lauren said the feedback was really uplifting, since teams put so much into a few minutes onstage and got to hear individual appreciation from the crowd.

3. Like last year, we ran freestyle prelims outside, then brought the Top 4 onto the main stage. This year 231 people voted to decide the winner (shoutouts @austingumban).

Meanwhile, I was also performing with @garagestudio1390, which included my first ever b-boy section on stage (co-choreographed with @brychizzle)!

We were also pretty nerfed lol.

@sunnysongg had done a ton of prep with me, but she was in New York for a bachelorette party. Hector had recently left Tap.In to focus on his full-time job, so I was the only founder there.

Then I injured my ankle the night before practicing the B-boy choreo in new shoes. Specifically the toprock part lol. Rookie mistake. By the next morning it hurt to walk, so I literally DoorDashed an ankle brace to Complex, and somehow I still performed.

Despite all of that, everything went according to plan.

There is absolutely no way that happens without friends.

@dunkiedonuts, @vincent.hwang, and I met the night before to run through programming, logistics, and MC cues. @gary_dsnail_ and @luckymoonstar7 saved the day: helping me with registration and running Tap.In when I had to be on stage. @lysifer21 and lyfehacker613 organized the choreo judge logistics as well. Vincent and @__vi__vu__ kept the battle moving, and the dancers showed up and killed it.

Big shoutouts to Duncan and @fullpotentialdc for trusting us two years in a row and making all of this possible 🫶🏽🫰🏽

This is how we contributed to Complex 2026!

1. Freestyle battle to kick the event off with over 300 people participating in voting.

2. Crowd Favorite had everyone flooding the comment box with positive comments to every team that performed, with 291 votes to crown the people’s champ.

3. Our 3 judges scored the whole competition live on their laptops. Making the judging process a lot easier and smoother.

Thank you @complexdancecompetition for giving us the opportunity🫶
