Meet Lyric Theatre senior Kathryn King! Kathryn has performed in Lyric Theatre’s Under the Stars (Soloist), Carnaval! (Soloist), A Little Night Music (Petra), City of Angels (Gabby/Bobbi), MET the Musical (Charlie), Fugitive Songs (Soloist), Oklahoma! (Vivian/Featured Dancer), and Orfeo (Onstage Ensemble/Featured Dancer). Kathryn has also served as the Assistant Conductor for The Wild Party and Music Director for 35MM: A Musical Exhibition. Outside of LTI, Kathryn is a member of the School of Music Undergraduate Committee and student member of the Krannert Center Advancement Council. She also works as the Student Social Media Assistant for the Krannert Center and Social Media Manager for Choirs at Illinois. Kathryn was also the winner of the 2024 ACDA Choral Composition Contest. Following graduation, Kathryn hopes to relocate to the west coast and pursue a career in production and arts administration! She hopes to continue composing, especially in choral music. Kathryn’s advice for incoming freshmen is, “Advocate for yourself! LTI is such a welcoming and open program and environment — if you want something that’s maybe off the beaten path but think would be the perfect fit for you within a performance/show situation, ask!” 💙

I am so grateful to have premiered my ACDA-winning piece “Wanderer’s Nightsong II” last night at the Chamber Singers Annual Fall Concert. Chamber is such a phenomenal group, and I am so grateful to each and every member for embracing this piece, adapting to its many changes, and making such a beautiful piece of music. I am so grateful to @andreasolya for choosing this piece for this amazing concert lineup and for turning my sheet music into such a beautiful, living piece of art. I am so grateful for @choirsatillinois and all that they’ve done for me, and I hope this is just the beginning of my choral composition journey. ❤️
