The Chicago marathon was different for me this year. This time around I had more friends cheering me on and that meant so much to me 🫶🏽
Most importantly, my kids got to cheer for me and watch their mom get through hard things (and times) 🥹
I also seen a lot of you guys on the course and that pushed me to go harder 💪🏽
Shoutout to those who continue to be by my side and who motivate me to be better.
And thank you to all the run clubs who have welcomed me with open arms and allow me to be part of their community 🫰🏽

People think running is a solo sport. It really isn’t.

Yesterday, @conganasrc took over miles 22 and 24 of the Chicago Marathon and I watched that truth play out over and over again.

Runners came through tired, hurting, thirsty, emotional, determined, and our little spot on the boulevard was there to meet them with a cup of water, a slice of orange, some Biofreeze, a first-aid kit, a high five. A place to stop for a second.

And when one runner needed more serious help, our team stayed with them until the medical professionals arrived.

I’ve been volunteering at the Chicago Marathon since 2004 when I was in high school. I’ve watched thousands of people run past me over the years. I’ve also become a runner myself, although my own marathon story currently ends at 13.1 miles.

But yesterday reminded me that there are so many ways to be part of a race.

You can run it.
You can train for it.
You can cheer for it.
You can serve the people running it.

And sometimes, the most meaningful place to be is simply wherever you’re needed.

Maybe that’s why comunidad means so much to me.

Not just as a runner, but as an SLP, too. So much of what I do comes back to the same thing: showing up, paying attention, and helping someone keep moving forward.

Yesterday, we did that together Con Ganas✨

And just like that, 18 weeks of a beautiful, challenging, motivational run program has come to an end 🥹💪🏽 what a bitter sweet feeling it is to have such an inspiring community to chase strength, endurance, and empowerment. As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. 💕 Literally could have not done this without my amazing coach and all my lovely running baddies 💖💝. What a privilege it is to be able to run and push your body beyond its limits. I’ve yet to learn to love running, but I don’t run because I love it. “I run because I love the woman I become when I don’t quit.” 🫶🏼🫂 (*insert self hug)
