The Big Walk & Talk of Great Britain: Day 21.

A special day today with @worcswarriors 🤙

My old teammate from Leeds academy @louisbrown asked if I fancied coming in for the day & speak to the team there.

He picked me up from camp & gave me a lift into the stadium where I sat in the player’s meetings & told them about why I was on this mission.

I managed to bite my tongue from any nause rugby video analysis chat (get deeper & wider lads).

The guys invited me to have a kick about which was a good laugh & I then watched them train which was followed by some good food, answering some deep questions & an ice bath/jacuzzi session.

I can’t thank these guys, Matt, the coaching staff & Louis enough for welcoming me so warmly into their world for the day.

It felt so natural & it was also unreal to have a laugh with a good bunch of blokes after walking solo for the majority of this adventure.

As soon as I walked in I was made to feel at home; the culture & environment they are building there is something special.

An environment without hierarchy, without ego, a safe place to express themselves on & off the pitch.

The youngest member in the squad told me “I couldn’t have a better place to kick start my rugby career than here - it feels like I can ask anything & no one is toxic”.

@billy.twelvetrees & I spoke for a while over lunch about my story but also about how the old ‘tough guy rugby’ style doesn’t work anymore.

I had some bad experiences with coaches, with feeling under pressure & with player welfare management that led me to not wanting to play anymore at times, which I then opened up about in therapy.

This club has shown me that something is changing for the better in this sense, how amazing.

1 year ago I was just coming into the World again & unsure of what the future held.

Today I told my story & had open conversations with men in an elite setup that are stereotyped as needing to be ‘tough’.

Please don’t give up on your dreams.

Back on the road tomorrow & the mission is to get up to Leeds for bank holiday weekend, let’s go team 🫡

Here is a small number of the many reflections I’ve had already on this adventure (as always I’ve already seen the typos 🫠).

There are so many more things I’d like to say & share.

I feel blessed to even be on this Earth & so to be 11 days into a dream adventure has me lost for words.

The most important slides are at the end (of course).

If you make it that far then thank you for being a part of this story that has many pages left to be written.

And, thank you to every single person that has supported me.

From former All Blacks & World Cup winners that are my heroes, Sky Sports presenters, friends, family, strangers & the people I’ve met on the road.

It means more to me than you’ll ever know.

Over 25km on the cards tomorrow for day 12.

God is good & is guiding me every day.

You know what the thing is that you’re avoiding.

The application, the travelling, the trial, the text message.

Don’t let fear get between you & what you know you are truly capable of.

I spent years in that place of self doubt & criticism.

Please don’t be the person who sits there in 30 years times thinking “what if…?”

25km coming right up.

The Big Walk & Talk of Great Britain: Day 4.

Up at 7am this morning, quick pack down of my gear & then met with the lovely Andy who works for the RNLI down here.

He collected the kit that I stripped down, maybe 4kg which hopefully will make a difference today.

Last night I thought I’d bitten off more than I can chew as I thought about how I have around 60 days left.

But this is expected at the start.

Doubt creeps in when I’m tired & my feet are screaming.

I reckon after a week my body will start to adapt to what it’s going through as this lifestyle becomes the new norm.

19 people in the UK won’t be here by the end of today as we lose them to suicide.

Can you sacrifice that caramel frappe this morning & donate it to a cause that is trying to change this number?

I’m one of the lucky ones who survived attempts to take my own life, let’s keep working on allowing more fellow souls to have the same story of survival.

15/16 miles today along the coastal path up to Newquay.

Setting off in 30 mins from the lovely cafe that I have been stealing the electricity from to charge everything up.

Let’s do this team.

The Big Walk & Talk of Great Britain: Day 3.

TEEEAAAAM I slept like a BABY last night which is a blessing from above.

Feeling fresh in the soul it’s just the feet that are giving me grief with a few blisters that a bigger than my student debt.

About to tuck into my compeed plaster breakfast then hit the road.

Shorter day today which is perfect as I head up to Perranporth & hopefully some time to have a swim once I get there.

Gonna just take this one slow as the last 2 days have felt slightly rushed & yesterday was a real grit the teeth one which rocked the top 2 inches saying I’ve got about over 60 days left to the finish line.

It’s been really difficult to reply to everyone in my inbox but I have seen the messages & they are really helping me realise that this mission is worth it, keep them coming.

Let’s see if we can get to £2,500 in donations by the time I set off to Exeter.

Lots of people liking & saying good luck which is amazing, not many of those people however are skipping their morning Starbucks to give to a cause that will save lives.

You know who you are, I’ll start calling you out online soon; you’ve been warned 😤

Stay groovy team, brush your teeth twice today & make sure you check in on a loved one to see how they are.

Genuinely though, whoever pops into your head right now when I ask “who haven’t you spoken to for a while that you’ve been meaning to message?” - send the text now.

The Big Walk & Talk of Great Britain: Day 2.

30km roughly on the map today to get up to Redruth, tomorrow I will head up to Newquay & hopefully make friends with some cool dudes attending Boardmasters if they’re not too sloshed by then.

Enjoying waking up ready to go as opposed to yesterday where it was a bit rushed to get the miles in, hopefully no running today.

Prayer, stretching & a gratitude left on the routine to get done before I set off.

Give it a try for 11 days & see what happens.

I am seeing people’s messages but just slow to reply at the moment, over 200 in my inbox, but please keep sending them through.

Also, please remember to donate if you haven’t; if @philvickery3 & his interview isn’t clear enough about the brain injury crisis then I’m not sure what is.

Lads & ladies are taking their own lives just to be believed or have their brain looked at.
