Workspaces are alive.

Quiet rhythm, tapping, thinking, shaping – working something into existence.

We are constantly inspired by this precise texture, thoughtfulness, and human skill that exists in the smallest to largest spaces.

This is a round of applause for the shops that are inspiring us today.

The Connections Museum is a volunteer-driven organization keeping the history of telecommunications – and the physical systems of connection- alive. Housed in a former telephone switching facility in Georgetown, it maintains and demonstrates working equipment that once carried conversations across the region.

We are working with their team to prepare for their next chapter, creating dedicated space for exhibition and hands-on restoration.

Our 2025 bucket list is full of museums and landmarks to visit. For example, did you know you could fill your weekend with incredibly cool old stu— I mean history! By coming to our open house (free!) on Saturday and then visit our friends at the Connections Museum (just a few minutes away!) on Sunday? That’s a weekend well done.

Saturday Feb 8, join one of our knowledgeable docents for a free tour or explore the Plant on your own. Tours are about an hour and leave at 10:30, 11:30, and 12:30. Free parking on site.

The Georgetown Steam Plant is owned by Seattle City Light.

GPO 1931 Post Master General writing on behalf to a new Subscriber, welcoming them to the telephone service, and what will happen next. A genuine letter which I’m lucky to own in my collection and shows the start of the use of the telephone in the 1930s. I brought it off the daughter who had lived in their London house for two generations and found it hidden in the loft when the house clearance was upon them 🇬🇧 #letterstoliveby #historical #historyinthemaking #past #1930 #1930sstyle #historyphotographed #historyinpictures #instagram #photos #photography #photograph

GPO 1960s stores holding items for engineers that would be signed out to individual engineers with a log record of the item and date 🇬🇧 this meant that GPO engineers could complete their jobs and looked after their own equipment, the GPO had wire wrapping tools to headlamps when working on the automatic exchanges, the GPO had tools specifically made for the roles that where to be carried out. In the vans engineers would carry GPO stock such as telephones for subscribers, wiring and cabling for installation, in the back of the GPO staff directory was a store catalogue for colleagues to order the tools needed to complete a job 📦 🔨happy June everyone 😊
