A favorite photo taken this past summer in White Park. The basketball 🏀 lines up perfectly with the player Cesar Fantauzzi depicted in the mural. @efantauzzi01 @manhattancb11 @environmentopenspacenparks

1 of 7 oil paintings by Mija Jung that will be included in the Fall/Winter Salon. At 20”x16” it is not the smallest nor is it the largest which is 60”x50”. One size does not fit all! A brief recap of Art & Community. A collaboration between @manhattancb11 Economic Development and Culture committee, Environment Open Space and Parks committee, and some of the artists who inspire the creative culture that defines us as a community. Cultural equity means that we are free to assemble, free to speak, free to create, and provide access to the arts. The murals that bring the public access plaza @senderoverdenyc to life were created by Betsy Casanas @bzcasanas and Maria Dominguez @mariadominguez991

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to document voices from East Harlem during Fall of Freedom — hearing local artists share who they are, where they create, and what drives their work.

And when I say artists, I mean art in all its forms — visual art, music, performance, and creative expression.

There’s something powerful about simply giving people the space to tell their own stories, in their own words. Their work carries culture, identity, history, struggle, joy and the spirit of the community around them.

This is East Harlem, told through the voices of those who create here. @falloffreedom

Art & Community

It was wonderful to attend this gathering of artists in solidarity with their neighbors supporting Freedom of Expression at the Fall of Freedom Event on the public access terrace at Sendero Verde which features an amazing mural by @mariadominguez991.

Many Thanks to @artlivesherenyc and @manhattancb11 for making this @falloffreedom event happen and giving members of the community an opportunity to fight against the Fall of Freedom in this country.
