Hitting another one of our “Main Lifts” with the LOTM!

LIFT OF THE MONTH — BENCH PRESS

What is it?
A foundational upper-body strength lift where the athlete lowers the barbell under control to the chest and presses it back up to full extension while maintaining a strong and stable upper body.

Why do we do it?
The bench press helps develop upper-body strength and teaches athletes how to create total-body tension while producing force. When performed correctly, it builds power through the chest, shoulders, and triceps while reinforcing proper shoulder positioning.

Benefits
-Builds upper-body strength and power
-Develops pressing force for sport performance
-Improves shoulder stability when performed correctly
-Strengthens the chest, shoulders, and triceps
-Reinforces body control and tension under load

COACHING CUES

-Eyes under the bar
-Feet flat — drive through the floor
-Shoulder blades down and back
-Big breath and brace
-Control the bar to the chest
-Elbows around 45° from the body
-Press back and up
-Lock out strong and reset
