It was the longest road to get here. 4.5 years of infertility and negative tests. 7 months of grueling pregnancy symptoms. 1 very unexpected birth 3 months early. 75 nail biting days in the NICU. Countless tears shed. And we finally made it home with our perfect little star ✨ We fought so long and so hard to make our dream of growing a family a reality. So many obstacles that tried to tell us that we would never make it. And now we look around, living the dream we’ve always wanted. ✨ Lyra is worth every second of it ✨

Related note: it’s much easier and cheaper to source footage of 20th century factories and industry than it is to for anything 1990’s onward. Similarly related: in the last 15 years it is said the average person consumes 60% more than compared to before. It is also claimed that global consumption from 2016-2021 alone is equivalent to 75% of the totality of the 20th century. I can’t claim to know what’s hyperbole or deceptive, but I do wonder where it all goes, to what end? Is the only answer to consumption leaning into alternative forms of consumption and building new industries to support those exponentially expanding niche consumer profiles? We increasingly define ourselves by the purchases that we make and power uses this to seize every opportunity it can to militarize every day life. We are pushed into boxes that decide what choices are best just for us. Narrowing, but complicating the options further. You must be contemporary with your life and be able to meet the demands of that identity but it is also your responsibility to save the world, but you cannot let the world effect you too much, and you aren’t allowed or able to not care. In the end it’s all slipping out of your hands anyway. Obviously I would have chosen a better set of circumstances for the release of this music that has been such a huge part of the last four years of my life, but it is fitting if nothing else. It’s not a new thought that to love something completely is the most dangerous thing someone can let in. It is a thought that I feel in every part of my being in this moment. Crushing debt, Loss of work and pay, hopeless politics, loss of important personal relationships to conflict or misunderstandings, broken hearts, broken dreams. Anger feels like the only responsible choice. Turn inward and build a wall. Tell simple narratives, categorize everything and everyone and dismiss. As the world builds its walls and begins the spiral inwards the things that bind all of this together begin to snap. Love creates as many problems as it solves but it is by my reasoning the only human capacity that finds a way to hold on as everything unwinds.
