A little work, a few fit checks, and a whole lot of good people. Indigenous New York Fashion Week brought us together, and the random shenanigans filled in the rest.

Much love to everyone who made this trip what it was. Apparently “no sleep till Brooklyn” didn’t mean we’d sleep once we got there.

That’s another James Beard Media Awards in the books! Even though Turtle Island didn’t win, we enjoyed a whirlwind weekend celebrating alongside food authors, writers, and editors. @the_sioux_chef, @kristincdonnelly, and I are so proud of this first-of-its-kind book and the impact it has made in shining a light on Indigenous cultures all across North America. We’re grateful to our vast village who helped make it happen, especially editor @francis_lam, agent @jonahstraus, recipe tester extraordinaire @meccabos, photographers @thedavidalvarado and @jaida.greyeagle, illustrator @jimmydeanhorn , and all of the courageous culture bearers who shared their wisdom and stories with us.

Had our names been called on Saturday night, I would have shared this short and sweet sentiment, which remains true even without the @beardfoundation hardware.

As one of very few Indigenous women to win a James Beard Award, I dedicate this honor to Native American youth all across Indian County who are chasing after dreams that might seem impossible. The fact that this book exists and that we’re standing here on this stage is proof that if you can dream it, you can do it.

Thank you to the incredible @k.a.nelson & @cowboysindiansmagazine for the opportunity to slay the most beautiful faces for their April cover issue. I literally just got mine in the mail today and I’m so proud.

I pride myself on being more than just a beauty founder and makeup artist. My clients usually become like family to me and that is not an understatement I take lightly. I’ve had the honor of being my baby bear’s and her amazing familias personal makeup artist for some of the most important moments in their lives over the years. I always use the @pradosbeauty Indigena Guerrera Brontour, Matriarch Blush, Matriarch Eyeliner, Chingona lipliner, After hours mascara Hermosa lip oil, Baddie clan lashes on the girls. The pals always get a facial treatment with my facial tools, done with the slay makeup remover, start with the slay primer, Chrystaline gloss and TJ gets gold patches and a hydrating skincare bath for his rosacea. I also always use @fentybeauty foundation & concealer in shade 290 & 300 & 310 mixed on them for color correction. @onesize setting spray 💜

Santa Fe!!! SWAIA Native Fashion Week at the Eldorado Hotel & Spa, and this year’s event was beautifully intentional, curated, intimate, and celebrated the 5 designers.
Tyler @t_glasses , @naiomiglasses , and I had the honor of attending the Press & Designer Reception on Friday, May 8 at Cava and the Chapel. Seeing designers celebrated, hearing some the stories, and being in community with all the SWAIA Fashion lovers was the icing on the cake.
Grateful for the vision SWAIA & team are bringing to Native fashion. And @cowboysindiansmagazine thank you for celebrating Indigenous fashion!!! It was a lovely surprise to see the magazines and cut out. Ahéhee’. ❤️🙏🏽
