On Wednesday, we had a chance to do two fun dives at Sail Rock, following with a conservation dive at Shark Island.

We then wrapped up the week with Drupella snail removal 🐚

Ever since I fell in love with diving, I have been lucky to learn a great deal about the Ocean & the huge variety of species which call it home; from its wildlife to coral reefs. 🪸

The world under the waves is home to communities of abundance, complexity and resilience. These marine ecosystems however, are now increasingly fragile, damaged and threatened by human impact. 🌊

Marine conservation is at the heart of why I love to dive. Saving the ocean isn’t just important, it’s essential. Becoming a Divemaster, learning reef ecology, conducting data collections and being apart of hands on reef restoration has been an incredibly meaningful experience. I dive for a million reasons, but being apart of impactful marine conservation will always be my favourite. 💙

When we're not diving, we're welding 💪🧑‍🏭

We make most of our artificial structures ourselves, from bending to cutting to welding the metal. After completion, we all help to deploy them! 🏗️

As part of week 2 of the program, students work on an artificial design project. If we like your design, we might turn it into a real structure! 🪸🔨

A new season begins, and our commitment to protecting our oceans is stronger than ever.

This Summer, after becoming a @paditv Eco Center, our efforts go even further.

🌊 We’ve joined PADI Dive Against Debris, and you can too by diving with us. On our dives, we collect marine debris and upload the data to the platform, helping conservationists monitor the health of our seas.

🌱 We’ll continue offering @conservationdiverofficial courses, training the next generation of ocean stewards.

🐠 As an Observatorio Centinela of @obsdelmar we collect and report species data, supporting the scientific community in monitoring and protecting our local ecosystems.

🧜‍♀️ We also continue to support @daughtersofthedeep helping to close the gender gap in the marine industry.

Mineral accretion is a coral restoration technique that uses low-voltage direct current to accelerate the deposition of minerals. Primarily calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2) from seawater onto submerged metal structures. This process creates a limestone-like material, promoting faster, stronger, and more resilient coral growth. 🪸

🧬 Also known as Biorock technology, mineral accretion enables corals to grow 3–5 times faster and survive, even in high-stress or polluted areas. This is achieved because the electrical current creates an alkaline (higher pH) microenvironment on the structure surface, providing the corals with a strong calcium carbonate skeleton externally, which allows them to focus more energy on growth, rejuvenation and reproduction.

☀️ On Black Turtle reef in Koh Tao, we are developing techniques to electrify our artificial reef research tunnels utilizing only solar electricity. By generating our own solar power, we ensure consistent mineral accretion while also staying 100% green and generating power off the grid - which is extremely beneficial living on a small island such as Koh Tao. 🏝️
