After a wonderful 4 years with Paprika, Juliet is moving on from her position as Paprika’s Communications Producer.

“When I say Paprika changed my life. I truly mean it. Starting as a participant in the Playwrights Unit and then ultimately becoming part of the team has changed me and my outlook on being an artist. Growing up I was taught that being an artist is not a real career (especially for Black Women). And in 2020 at the height of the pandemic after being rejected from traditional training I was accepted into the Playwrights Program. And during that time I was paid to learn and create. I was shown what it means to be a working artist in this city. And I was able to see my creative idea come to life with the resources and mentorship it needed. After that I had the confidence to dive head first into a career as an artist.

Fast forward and I was given the opportunity to become the Communications Producer- turning my side passion of content creation and marketing into a professional opportunity.

I have been blessed to support 4 cohorts of incredibly talented artists as they expand their skills and find that same confidence.

Under the mentorship of Julia, Keshia, and Amanda I have been able to learn, make mistakes, cultivate community and thrive at Paprika ALL WHILE BEING PAID. 🙌🏾

And this is why organizations like Paprika are so essential to the performing arts industry. Artists need spaces and permission to create without pressure. And the time, patience, hands-on mentorship, and tools they give you, are incomparable to any other organization in Toronto (and maybe Canada). So, thank you and #Paprikaforever”

We’ll miss having Juliet’s face in front of and behind the camera, but we’re so excited to cheer her on in this next chapter! 🎉 Join us in sending a million thanks to Juliet in the comments! 💕
