[2View] Drift :: Manic EP / Radius Etc :: Alive & Thriving EP (The Consumers Research and Development Label)
https://igloomag.com/reviews/drift-manic-radius-etc-alive-thriving
#igloomag #reviews @portrhombus

"The Consumers Research and Development Label is clearly not trying to be one thing, and that’s the most encouraging part of this reintroduction. A techno veteran finally putting out his own record after twenty years of platforming everyone else, sitting right next to a hip-hop travelogue built out of literal years of instability and constant movement, that’s a genuinely odd pairing on paper, and it works precisely because neither release is compromising to fit next to the other."

Closing Aura is @daedelus ’ beautiful “re-cover” of Krylon Psychology, a song of mine penned using graffiti as musical score while at NYU in 2000.

I first met Alfred a few years later, touring with their and @dubfrosty’s project Adventure Time; then, in 2006, we created more road stories together on a Mush Records tour with @thaviusbeck. I am honored they contributed their take on my sound for this retrospective, specifically one that defined my audio/visual aesthetic so early on.

They had this to say: “Went into this feeling like it would be a remix and came out the other side deeply affected by the process of reconstruction. Krylon is a beast of a tune, amorphous and ambitious (not unlike other Caural productions). I made a triptych; each section is further from the Krylon truth with flecks of gossamer throughout.”

AURA is available on all platforms.

1. Young Daedelus on Polaroid Film
2. Me & Alfred with Pals from Sound In Color, 2004
3. Adventure Time Live at Holocene, 2004
4. 2006 Mush Tour Flyer
5. Daedelus Live on Mush Tour, 2006
6. Me Live on Mush Tour, 2006 (photo by Serene Careaga)
7. Written Accompaniment to Graffiti As Musical Score, 2000. Fun fact: the other tune from this project was “For Earsnot, NYC”, later released on Stars On My Ceiling
8. Original 7” sleeve for Suicide/Krylon Psychology, 2005. Designed by @nonstopdemo & released by @consumersresearchanddevelopment

The Electronic Buffet

*Juneteenth Edition*

Resurrected once again, with a new home @publicworksgallery

Fresh from RADIUS ' "Alive & Thriving" Album release party in March, presenting a new season of local monthly talent + guests; showcasing a wide range of styles, experiences and music production gear, via a format removing the headliner aesthetic, thus bringing forth a rotating producer cypher, throughout the night.

The Electronic Buffet was established in the early 2000s by Moment Sound, a collective + label founded by Lokua @lokua , Garo @gman3101, & Slava @s_lava , whom RADIUS, frequently collaborated and performed within.

The night promises to showcase vibrant diversity within the Electronic music scene, that can be often overlooked & misrepresented, especially in relation to Chicago.

Thursday vibes.
Man, this artist has a lot to say. Really fluid blend of beat, hip-hop, dub, world, experimental, percussive flow with some jazzy organ pushing and pulling. #RadiusEtc

“New music” OUT NOW….

(PEEP MY IG LIVE SHORTLY)

From the RADIUS vault produced between 2006-2008, initially was a promo
To get signed + work with labels and emcees,I admired and respected.
If you weren’t a label I mailed this to, you were in my immediate circle & received
A CD copy, with a cover, with four in a square.

This version was the initial copy, to be pressed on wax via @consumersresearchanddevelopmen , whom I partnered with for “Alive & Thriving” released just two months ago (get the last copies before it’s too late)

Fast forward to last month, I’m chilling, set to create new music, in Basque Country France, (Biarritz), while on this tour, (peace from Berlin),

I was building with my fellow @etcmedia family @jostereo whom I initially met at the great cultural creative portal ; Rodan (Rip) @rodanwickerpark in 2009, where he approached me with a French accent startling me, saying “Radius” 👀, and I’m like, how does someone in Paris (he was visiting from), know about I or my music?!

Anyway that became my brother, we vibed on some music, and I sorted him a copy, and about somewhere between 7-8 years later, i lost this file and the original beats without the movie dialogue throughout it, which is how it’s presented here as a promo, which was inspired by J Dilla’s “The Shining”:advanced copy, in 2006, that utilized the movie’s dialogue throughout it, to prevent bootlegging. That version was amazing, and if you never heard it, I suggest looking for it.

I helped establish @stonesthrow street team Chicago chapter, working With @havanajiddo and later @djseandoe , the first campaign was for Donuts and Further Adventures of lord Quas, before the residency’s at Sonotheque, shouts to Joe Bryl , but that’s all a whole other @ted (I’m ready please hit me), or episode of @flynerdgroup (stay tuned for the first, they the dopest cats )

Sooooo much depth and layers to this. Il leave it this for now, @jostereo had this album as well as the original beats , and it’s shy of 20 years when we connected, he mastered this project and also gave me the OG BEATS!!!! (Sup emcees!)

Sorry but this one here’s pure 🔥!!! A tribute to “Style Wars” & “Beat Street” our labels & @radiusetc all grew up on a steady diet of both.

This here via the @chicago L and @uptown_rockers_chi 🔥🔥🔥with a special collaboration between @radiusetc capturing the footage of his travels and breakdance crew, and sop founder @chriseichenseer who grew up as a suburban b-boy (yes, hard to believe) editing and styling this one out, this is true love and lifelong heart by all.

“Goldenlocks” the third & final single from the new @radiusetc LP “Alive & Thriving”. Full video link in bio. Vinyl too.

These dancers! Tremendous THANK YOU for your heart & soul. You all made this what it is !!!! 🖤🖤🖤
