“Iman in Gullveig”
Acrylic and Gold leaf on stretched black canvas 24” x 18”

Thank you @shadow.sorceress for being such an inspiration to others. I was scrolling through insta and saw a jaw dropping photo of her and it simply radiated bad bitch Goddess energy and I just had to paint it. Consider this look SERVED!

Gullveig was a Vanir Goddess of healling obsessed with gold. In the hall of Odin, Gullveig was assaulted by the gods. She was brutally tortured and burnt three times in a great fire. Each time she was burned in the fire, at the fires wane she was born. The Venir demanded reprise for the treatment of Gullveig, and a war broke out between the Gods that lasted for 10 years before the veneer conquered. Risen from the fire at last, Gullveig was reborn as Heid, and practice the craft of seiõr.
Seiõr is a type of magic practiced in Norse Mythology

Her story comes from the Eddic poem Völuspá

21. She remembers the war, the first in the world,
when they stabbed at Gold-Draught [Gullveig] with many spears,
and in the hall of the High One [Odin] they burned her body,
Three times they burned the one thrice born,
often, over again; yet she lives still. 22. They called her brightness [Heiôr], when she came to their homes,
a witch who could foretell;She knew the skills of wands,
she made magic where she could, she made magic in a trance;
she was always a delight to a wicked woman. 🖤
