Graduation time is approaching. Today was my favorite event — Senior Clap Out. Back at the kids Grade School and the full circle moment hits hard. Wasn’t too long ago we were holding their hands walking them to Sharp. Now celebrating the end of High Scool. Love you Keira and Shaelea!

And just like that, I have another proud-Dad moment with Keira’s announcement that she too has committed to Stockton University to continue her XC/TF career. Keira has long been set on becoming a nurse, which is the ideal career choice for her. But she has been just as adamant that she wanted to be a distance runner at the collegiate level. She found her home at Stockton both in their Nursing program and the XC/TF team. Keira’s journey to get to this point is analogous to a XC meet. She has prepared herself through strenuous training, worked through pre-meet jitters, slowly gained more confidence, and found something deep inside for a push to the end. In each meet and throughout her life, it’s been a honor to witness her growth and maturity. I am so happy for you Keira. You’re an amazingly kind and talented young woman. And, it’s also super cool (and so much easier for me) that you’re going to be college teammates with your sister!!! Congrats!! And I love ya so much.

It is with tremendous pride that I share Shaelea’s announcement that she has committed to Stockton University to continue her XC/TF career. Her decision reflects an incredibly mature balancing of her dream of being a college athlete with finding the perfect fit academically. Stockton University provides that balance with a premier D3 program, a great coach that will help Shaelea reach her full potential, and an academic program that will propel her to a future career as a Physical Therapist. If you don’t already know, XC/TF is a very different type of spectator sport. You get to see your athlete run for a few minutes on a track or even just a few seconds in a few different spots on a XC course. But every time I get to see Shaelea run and push herself—even for just a few seconds—it is a cherished experience. Knowing that she will be doing that over the next four years close to home fills my heart with joy. Shaelea is an incredible young woman. Yet when I look at her I often still see lil’ Shae who was fighting with everything she had in her first few minutes of life. I was in awe of that fight on Day 1 and continue to be awed by her fighting spirit today. I’m looking forward to four more years of her showing that fight. Congrats to Shaelea. I love everything about you!!!

If you know me, you easily recognize that I am a lucky dad. And my kids always fill my heart with pride. And yet there are some days that are extra special days and stand apart from others. Today is one of those days. Ethan has verbally committed to attend and play D1 soccer at Mount St. Mary’s University. I am so very happy for him knowing he will live out a dream he’s had since he started playing soccer. As a family we have witnessed each step, each bump and bruise, and each victory and loss. Through it all, Ethan has exuded a calmness and quiet confidence that belied his age. Importantly, his success on the field has only been eclipsed by his success in the classroom. Even better — Ethan is a kind, empathetic, and thoughtful young man. So yes, my heart and soul swell with great pride and emotion today. Congratulations Ethan for this wonderful achievement. But know this, you are just getting started. And I’m so excited for what’s to come and watching each step of the next phase of your journey.
