Mexikcal Feasting 🇲🇽🌯🌮 AD | invite It has taken me too long to visit @mexikcal which is situated inside Durty Murphy’s pub in Aberdeen. The team very kindly invited me down to try out so dishes from their Mexican street food menu. I brought my mum and dad with me, who jumped at the opportunity. You can both order food from the table and at the kiosk, where you can browse the menu and customise your meal. Service was excellent, very quick, everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Durty Murphy’s is an Irish Pub so they had a drinks special honouring this- green, white and orange Negronis, like the Irish flag. I tried the Green Negroni and boy was it strong. That drink will get the party started ☘️🇮🇪 We asked both our server and the couple dining next to us for their suggestions. Basically the whole menu sounded amazing so it was difficult to narrow it down to just one option each. The food here is very fresh and home made. It has an authentic feel. Check out their blue corn tortilla chips! 👀 What we ate ~ ✨Quesabirria Beef Tacos ✨Honey Chipotle Chicken Quesadilla ✨Carne Asada Cali Burrito ✨Tortilla Chips with Salsa Verde and Tomato Salsa ✨Guinness Brownie We devoured everything. It was honestly a 10/10 meal! Great portion sizes, fresh food, lots of flavour. We will definitely be revisiting soon.

AD | ARW Ambassador @mexikcal Aberdeen was missing proper Mexican food… so Mexikcal decided to do something about it. 🇲🇽 As part of my ARW adventures, I was invited along to Mexikcal at Durty Murphy’s to try some of their £10 offerings and hear a bit more about how it all started. With several Mexican restaurants disappearing from Aberdeen over the years, Director Calum W and the team felt there was a gap. Calum already had plenty of experience making Mexican food, so they set out to bring it back to the city, but with their own twist. What makes Mexikcal interesting is the subtle fusion of cooking techniques from other cuisines with authentic Mexican recipes. You might not immediately think “fusion food”, but those techniques give the dishes their own distinctive flavour. Their goal? For you to take a bite and feel transported to Mexico City. Apparently, multiple Mexicans living in Aberdeen have even told them their Birria Tacos are better than the real deal… 👀 For ARW they’ve created a couple of brand-new dishes, including the Mini Burger Slider Trio, designed so you can try several of their burgers at once and pick a favourite. I LOVED these. Really flavourful, moist patties and a great way to sample more of the menu. Then came the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Cheesy Beef Birria Bomb Trio. Try saying THAT after a few drinks. 😂 Their bestselling birria inspired these little beasts: birria beef stuffed with cheese, coated in Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and served with queso. Very nice indeed! We also somehow tackled some loaded steak & pulled pork nachos and fries with five dips, chipotle mayo, sour cream, avocado crema, queso and one fairly spicy sauce. That spicy one was my fave. I practically smothered everything in it. 🤤 And because apparently we hadn’t eaten enough, out came a Guinness brownie made by Cookie Cult. Sweet, rich, ridiculously decadent and the final push towards rolling me home. There are loads of £10 choices during Aberdeen Restaurant Weeks, but Mexikcal says if there’s ONE dish that sums them up, it’s their Birria Tacos. 🌮 📍 Mexikcal at Durty Murphy’s 🕚 Sun–Wed 11am–12am | Thu 11am–1am | Fri–Sat 12pm–2am 📅 ARW: 24/8-6/9
