There is a lot of “othering” in our world right now. Some of it will trickle down to our kids despite our best intentions. Books are always a wonderful way to open up important conversations with kids of all ages, so we can talk to them about what they’re hearing and thinking, and to help guide them down a path of kindness and understanding.

🧠 I’m concerned about the impact of tech and social media on our kids’ mental health, same as most of you I would imagine. But what if a lot of what we think we know is wrong?

What if a lot of the proposals to keep kids “safe” online might actually hurt them? What if we aim to hold the social media companies accountable and not the users? What if we are so focused on hashtag-ready rallying cries hat we are taking our eyes off of solutions that will have the most impact?

I spoke with @devorahheitnerphd, who literally wrote the book on growing up safe in the digital age. Her insights are nothing short of eye-opening.

She challenges so much of the conventional wisdom in a short 30 minutes, it’s hard to even summarize here. I’ll just say it’s nuanced, it’s data-based, and it’s well worth your time so that you can make the best decisions for your own kids. As she reminds us, no one knows them better than you do. -Liz

Which is her favorite word ...and now probably ours 😂

I especially appreciated her describing the difference between happiness and joy, which I REALLY needed to hear right now.
