I’m so excited!! Writing the script and designing characters challenged me to try new things.

@darkhorsecomics thanks for the opportunity to be part of a cool project!

@caitlike the artist took everything to a new level! And her creative decisions pulled everything together with amazing colors.

“Trust your vision and your words...” If you’re trapped by deliberation or self-doubt, Nahdiah’s pep talk might be exactly what you need to hear.

In the final hours of our submission period, it is time to trust your hard work and your creativity. You’ve got this.

This weeks Community Arts Booth at Portland Saturday Market🎨✨

This week we will be hosting artists Nadia Shaik and Bobby Adams.

Nadia Shaik is the author and illustrator behind indie media studio Garam Masala Studios. Her art and stories bring spice and explore multicultural folk and pop cultures, and promotes interfaith and multicultural literacy. Her work embraces inner resilience, courage, faith, and nature and shows how those forces transform our lives and community.

Bobby Adams is a multi talented artist and pop-up art gallery co-owner living and working in Portland. His body of work ranges from colored pencil, to collage, to paintings on wood and unique shaped stretched canvas. He describes his work as storytelling through bold shapes and the visual impact of the color spectrum.

The community booth is located at the front of the market, next to the covered seating area. Come show your support this Saturday, July 23rd, 10am-5pm☀️

Creative not in a niche.

Getting ready for this tonight.
Our graphic novel critique group is getting some chat share from awesome graphic novelist Chad Sell. I read his 'Cardboard Kingdom' middle grade book and it is such fun. Using imagination at play. Love it.

Introducing one of our week 10 vendor spotlights: Garam Masala Studios!

Note: Nadia will not be able to ship out orders till the end of June but you may still inquire about purchasing her work!

I’m Nadia Shaik, a businesswoman and professional illustrator, writer, and digital media storyteller from Chicago, IL based in Oregon. The spaces with community, family and food are where I call home. Since graduating community college in 2014, I've been involved in different circles in Portland across entertainment, art, and film.
With the rise of digital media and social media platforms growing, I'm part of a successful and influential global Blindian (Black and Indian) community. I’m the founder of the digital media studio Garam Masala Studios. I bring my unique voice and experiences to the digital media, self-publishing and entertainment industries as an American-Muslim Blindian (African American and Hyderabad South Indian). My heritage lends resilience, boldness and timeless and timely appeal to my stories and art.

A fashionable 90s kid, reading manga, playing video games, watching Cartoon Network’s Toonami, foreign films and Bollywood movies was an anchor for my mixed identity and allowed me to connect to others. I enjoy these today and much of my stories and art are crafted from a mix of these aesthetics and cultures.

“Hi! My name is Nadia Shaik. I was born and raised in Chicago,Illinois and I've spent a good amount my life living in Oregon.

Today I enjoy who I am: a multicultural woman. I celebrate my cultures, fashion, food, and traditions to show up authentically me. My life experiences have helped me to developed resilience and determination for my daily life and be kind towards people.

I wasn't always brave. Being raised in the Muslim community & part of African-Asian-American cultural was like living in Harry Potter. There was a whole other mysterious lifestyle that others even my Christian side of family didn't understand. At times it was cool. Other times isolating. Bullying and wanting to be liked and accepted were themes of my adolescence. I'm thrilled at the innovation and excitement of New Media Communications and my pursuit of entrepreneurship.

Garam Masala Masala Studios is my multimedia production studio. I draw illustrations and write stories that reflect and open up about common experiences in the mixed and Brown-Black American communities. The name is an homage to my big, multicultural family and to my belief that each of us are a mixture of personality and life experience that make us unique and irreplaceable.”
