Meet Renee, who has lived with chronic cough for more than 5 years and coughs about 1500 - 2000 times a day.

This video means a little more to me than it probably looks.

I was born prematurely and grew up with respiratory problems. I eventually developed bronchiectasis and chronic respiratory issues, and for most of my childhood, breathing was something I had to actively work on: medication, breathing exercises, physiotherapy, blowing into little tubes… you name it.

At one point, I was told I would probably never reach the lung capacity of a healthy person my age.

Then, when I was 14, I went to a friend’s vocal lesson and saw her doing breathing exercises. I thought: “Wait… this could actually help me.” So I started singing.

A few months later, my mum told me: “Marianna, you haven’t coughed today.” It was the first day I could remember not coughing.

I kept singing and, over the years, I started noticing that I was breathing better. My spirometry results went from around 80% of the predicted capacity to 83, 85, 89… and today I’m around 92–93%.

And then there’s this summer.

I spent 5 months singing live almost every day at Semeli Bar in Mykonos … 109 lives, 109 sunsets, using my voice, my breath and my lungs to do something I once thought I couldn’t.
I’m not saying singing replaces medication or medical treatment. It didn’t for me. But it became something that helped me work on my breathing consistently… because I actually loved doing it.
So if you’ve ever been told “you’ll never be able to…”, don’t automatically turn that sentence into the limit of your life.
Do not ignore your doctors, take care of your health, but always keep asking questions, and keep chasing the things you love.
Your starting point is not your finishing point. 🤍

In 2027 wird der CF-Selbsthilfe Braunschweig e.V. wieder einen Lehrgang für Physiotherapeut*innen anbieten.

Der Kurs „Atemtherapie bei obstruktiven Lungenerkrankungen” nach Jean Chevaillier wird an zwei Wochenenden (nicht drei) in Wolfenbüttel stattfinden.

Kursleitung: Kathrin Krüger und Michael Gredig
Kursgebühr Frühbucher (bis 30.11.2026): 750 Euro komplett
Kursgebühr normal: 850 Euro komplett
Der Preis ist inklusive Getränke und Mittagessen, Arbeits- und Unterrichtsmaterial.
