What if your undergraduate experience included contributing to research with real-world impact?

Four App State Kinesiology students recently received highly competitive undergraduate research awards through the Office of Student Research. These opportunities allow motivated students to work closely with faculty mentors while developing practical skills in research, analysis, communication, and community engagement.

Undergraduate research is more than an item on a résumé. It is an opportunity to ask meaningful questions, learn directly from faculty mentors, work with specialized research methods, and contribute to projects that can improve health and performance.

Interested in getting involved? Explore the research happening in the Department of Kinesiology, connect with faculty whose work matches your interests, and start a conversation about future opportunities.

Congratulations to these students and their faculty mentors!

Travis Manning, mentored by Dr. Samantha DuBois, worked with Team Sunergy to examine the psychological and physiological challenges experienced during solar-vehicle competitions. His findings will help inform strategies to support team performance and safety in high-stress environments.

Jacob Wright, mentored by Dr. Rebecca Kappus, contributed to a rural Appalachian health project focused on physical activity, muscular strength, and fall prevention among older adults. His experience included advanced cardiovascular assessments such as central blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and wave reflection.

Cora Passarelli, mentored by Dr. Jared Skinner, is examining how rhythmic auditory stimulation influences gait initiation in people with Parkinson’s disease. Her work explores practical and accessible interventions for clinical and underserved rural populations.

Brayden Borsuk, mentored by Dr. Robert Kowalsky, is contributing to an industry-funded study investigating how a vibration chair paired with guided breathing may influence blood pressure, heart rate, and arterial stiffness.

Low maintenance DEFINITELY doesn’t mean low impact! Shags are the perfect moment for a baddie with things to do besides styling their hair. Shoot me a DM so we can make you cool like them! 🦋✨🪩
