The quads are arguably one of the most painful areas to work on — especially when there’s a lot of built-up tension.

One area I often pay attention to is the vastus lateralis, the outer quad. When it’s tight, it can contribute to increased tension around the lateral side of the thigh and the structures associated with what runners often call “ITB syndrome.”

Sometimes the answer isn’t simply working harder on the ITB — it’s looking at the surrounding tissues and addressing where the tension is coming from.

@totalsportstwooceansmarathon half-marathon 2026 edition. I will sum it up in one phrase: "my community carried me to the finish line."

As some of you know, in the last year - running has been about gaining my fitness back. I have learnt emotional and physical healing are intertwined. As I heal, my fitness recovers - slowly but surely.

I woke up with what felt like full-blown flu and as an asthmatic that spells disaster. I decided to run anyway because we always finish what we start.

@andreajadecolomb met me at the 1km line and I nearly burst into tears because I was so grateful to see a friendly and warm face.

I adopted a run/walk strategy. That kept me going. One foot in front of the other. Easy does it.

I met another friend (Telana) at Southern Cross (14km mark or so). She fed me and hugged me and revived my spirit.

When I got to the 18km - before the cheerzone, I saw my sweet sister, @thandeksmonalisa_ waiting for me and she ran with me until we got to the cheerzone.

When I got to the cheerzone, I couldn't help but burst into tears. I got emotional seeing everyone erupt in cheers. Seeing familiar faces and all my friends from the different run crews - from @runnerssouthafrica Cape Town to @mustlovehills_runcrew and @crrc_ct - it was everyone coming together to cheer me on, some running with me for a bit - getting me through to the end.

Thank you so much to everyone, to all the crews for cheering me on. My heart is so full as I reflect on the very special community we have here in Cape Town. We are so much stronger together as we carry each other to the finish line.

This was my slowest Two Oceans Half Marathon but I walked away with a very full and grateful heart.

SPAR WOMEN’S RACE 2026

This year I decided to join my fellow Phadimas and enjoy a young easy 10k along the coast. Now we know already the Spar goodie bag is fire, so it was a no-brainer to enter it and join the work peeps. But I am also someone who likes vibes and I love bringing joy. Enter the helse Volkano speaker, courtesy of our Commercial dept. Yoh! We danced, skipped, sang, walked, ran a little, sang a lot. It was such an incredible vibe.
