‘trio’ is out today on Absorb, bringing together new computer music from gi, r hunter and Third Space 🪢
 The release is now available on streaming platforms, with remaining CDs available for purchase via Bandcamp.

@belleysbutton :  “The trio is significant in many contexts. Veni, vidi, vici. Omne trium perfectum. With trio, Absorb proposes three artists to complete the trinity.

gi answers with breathy beats, cracking marble, and post-doof static. r hunter’s rhythmic pyrotechnics weave glimmering micro hi-hats into Sisyphean wompy heaving. Third Space’s textural reverbs tease gut-wrenching bass to the precipice of falling apart. The three whip and heave, decisive and insistent. They lace their provocations in precision, exercising mastery while never straying far from chaos. They peer over into the abyss, taunting us with vertigo.

Threes create balance, harmonies, and patterns. In trio, the only pattern is that there is none. Rather, the divine harmony of this triad manifests mysteriously across three acts (beginning, middle, end), probing the limits of “intelligent dance music”, of computer music, and submerging the listener in the sub-sub-subterranean”

In ‘trio’ we hear a selection of new works from gi, r hunter and Third Space, each capturing something of the Absorb label’s consciousness from its inception in 2020 through to the present. These expressions reveal each artists’ distinct approach to composition while contributing to a greater, shared terrain of computer music. That unfolding, decidedly open sound has been shaped by this particular three, a trio who have quietly advanced the form over the past decade in Australia.

Without writing an essay I’ve got to send my love and appreciation towards Corey, Maryos and the wider @butter_sessions family.

The opportunities to work with the label has been a highlight of my time in music and I owe a huge amount to these two and their support.
It’s incredible to see how far the label has come in 15 odd years, the community that has been cultivated holds a special place in my mind and it’s hugely significant in music in Melbourne and Australia, it’s great to see Sleep D and the label go global and get the respect they deserve outside of Australia. They are a force.

To build something from the ground up on the love of music is very difficult and rare, we’ve all been fortunate to be a part of the community to help it grow into what it’s become today. Scary to think there are no signs of it slowing down too, the XV gig yesterday was unreal, come a long way from DJing to pretty much just each other at Killing Time years ago. It’s been a wild ride.
I’ve not got a bad word to say about these guys and the way they operate and will be forever grateful they have believed in my music and have put up with my lack of professionalism and stubbornness when it comes to my music and unusual ideas around it.
They are gems, congrats on an incredible 15 years and hope to see it continue long into the future.

The 15 year Comp is incredible, go pick up a copy as your local record shop and if you can, go pick up some merch.

The day has finally come - @animalialabel couldn’t be prouder to be welcoming @4ndym4rtin to the label family, with his first full 4 track vinyl release, just ahead of our showcase this Friday in Mexico City with @discosmovimiento ❤️

Andy Martin joins Animalia with his mesmerising, mind-bending musical interpretation of the Nahual , a common & integral figure of the belief systems of ancient Indigenous peoples of the Americas, which embodies the spiritual connection between humans & animals. In some traditional stories, this connection is so strong that they are said to transform into one of them.

Tierra de Nahuales refers to a region of ancient America inhabited by these mythological beings, which in this EP become part of the Animalia universe, shaped by psychedelic broken rhythms, tribal sounds, and dub influences. A release that feels both deeply personal to Andy’s musical & cultural identity as well as the label’s own - a telling ode to the abilities of the depth & outer worldly sense to his music - a world-building, shapeshifting & one of a kind artist who feels truly at home in the Animalia family.

It’s great to be back in the Forest Park Homestead studio for the first Do Your Thing show of 2026. It’s been a lovely, relaxing summer break, and I hope you managed to get away yourself for some chill-out time over the summer period.

Our inaugural musical journey of 2026 takes us on a trip through the landscapes and sounds of Australia’s nature-infused electronic scene. We explore a blend of atmospheric textures, deep tones, and housey grooves from some of our favourite music makers across the antipodean latitudes. Each track is threaded together by a shared love for the natural world, which serves as a vital source of creative inspiration.

New year new spot!

For the first time in a minute we are adding a new location to our annual calendar 🥰

A stone’s throw from some of our favourite locales, we are happy to announce that this Feb 15 we’ll be at the iconic Collingwood Children’s Farm.

Nestled in the back paddock we will be setting up the big rig for a day of some of the finest music this city has to offer, featuring some returning family and a debut to boot!

Sleep D [LIVE] 🫡

What can be said about Sleep D? Arguably (or indisputably), this country’s greatest electronic export. The Jackals from Frankston have been behind the wheels of the Butter Sessions powerhouse for a decade and a half, consistently setting the bar to stratospheric highs, and pushing what we are proud to call the real Melbourne Sound. Many are in awe of their ability to sculpt live sets to suit specific occasions, sometimes twisting and evolving on the fly in a way you almost wouldn’t believe if not for the fact that we’ve not heard the same set twice.

The boys have been in the studio crafting something special, and we’re over the moon to have them for an extended live set. One for the books we think!

Millú 😇

Part of the family since day dot, and one of our favourite selectors and people ever, Millu is back for another lap! Ever the wearer of many hats, the deejay, curator, presenter, designer and label head quite possibly needs to do less. A calm force behind the decks, and devoted community advocate behind the scenes, this duality is one of our favourite facets of the wonderful musical world of Millu. From powerful club fodder to beautiful ambient textures and everything in between, she does it all and we can’t wait to see what she has planned for us!

Bridget Small b2b Nick Ure 💆🏽‍♀️

Community stalwarts Bridget Small and Nick Ure are absolute heads and also very cheeky. Between them they have graced many an airwave (See: PBS, NTS, Skylab), and will be representing the Head Rush collective, the signal music sharing group-turned occasional party of our wildest dreams. The deepest of diggers and absolutely bursting with positive energy, you’re in for a rare treat with these two at the helm.
