📕: The Measure by Nikki Erlick
Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
🤓: book pick by @carlymoore411

Our book club really enjoyed this one! The Measure has such an interesting, thought-provoking premise: one morning, every adult receives a box containing a string that reveals exactly how long they will live. The catch? You get to decide whether or not you want to open it.
And naturally, that led us straight down the rabbit hole: Would you open yours? Would you want your spouse to open theirs? Would you tell anyone how long your string was? And if you were single, would someone’s string length affect whether you chose to build a life with them?
The story follows several people as they navigate this new reality, but what we enjoyed most was how many bigger questions it raised. How differently would you live if you knew your life would be short? Would knowing you had a long life make you more fearless—or make you take your time for granted? Is it better to know what’s coming, or is not knowing part of what makes life meaningful?
As the world begins dividing people into “short-stringers” and “long-stringers,” the book also explores how quickly fear and uncertainty can turn into judgment, discrimination, politics, and more.
There were definitely parts of the story we liked more than others, but this was such a good book club pick because there is SO much to talk about. It makes you think about love, marriage, family, mortality, and whether knowing the length of your life would actually change the way you choose to live it.
Our biggest takeaway: Would you open the box? And surprisingly, we definitely did not all have the same answer. 😂

A thought-provoking read and a great one to read with a group!

I’m still not convinced who had more fun yesterday... me or these kids. 😂🍝
After years of people asking if I’d ever teach pasta classes, I finally gave it a shot... and somehow everyone left with all ten fingers and a new appreciation for fresh pasta, so I’m calling it a success.
We made fresh egg pasta dough, learned why we knead it (yes, there was a little science involved), made five different pasta shapes, cooked a classic red sauce, and then sat down to enjoy what we made together.
Huge thanks to this awesome group for being my very first class and letting me use you as my guinea pigs. You all absolutely crushed it, asked great questions, and made me laugh all afternoon.
Also, a special shoutout to my sous chef for the day, @jchastain13, who helped me on his day off during a new restaurant opening. 🤪
I think it’s safe to say... there will definitely be more pasta classes. ❤️🍝

📕: Twice by Mitch Albom
Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
🤓: book pick by @corihiggins

We really enjoyed this one! What starts as a fascinating story about second chances gradually becomes a heartfelt reflection on love, regret, and the cost of always wondering “what if?”

When he is 8 years old, Alfie Logan discovers a magical ability: he gets a second chance at everything. He can undo any moment and live it again. The one catch: he must accept the consequences of his second try—for better or worse.
He grows up using his gift to avoid missteps and spare himself countless childhood embarrassments. He even takes foolishly dangerous risks, just to see what it’s like to come close to death before tapping back to safety.
Eventually, Alfie turns his gift to his love life, studying his crushes and revisiting moments to make himself more appealing. In time, he falls deeply in love with Gianna, the woman he believes is the one, and seems to find contentment.
But as the years pass, Alfie’s eye begins to wander. That’s when he learns a crucial caveat to his power: once he undoes a love, that person can never fall in love with him again. Knowing that giving in to temptation could cost him everything he has with Gianna, Alfie makes a choice that changes his life forever.

Thoughtful, bittersweet, and emotionally moving, Twice invites readers (and listeners) to consider the cost of endlessly revisiting the past and the value of embracing the life unfolding before us. A moving story that lingers long after the final page.

Still reeling from this weekend in the best way. 🤍

Thank you to every single person who came out to support Pasta Queen at my very first farmers market. Seeing so many sweet friends, familiar faces, and new customers stand in line for something I’ve poured so much love into truly meant the world to me.
I drove home exhausted, grateful, emotional, and honestly still on cloud nine. Thank you for supporting small businesses and this little dream of mine. I can’t wait to do it all again with you.

See y’all at the next market on 5/23! 🍝✨

📖: Gone before Goodbye by Reese Witherspoon & Harlan Coben
Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½
🤓: book pick by @gwendolynw

Gone Before Goodbye was exactly the kind of fast-paced, emotional thriller we were hoping for. It blends action and psychological suspense with just enough heart to keep us fully invested. Maggie is a strong but flawed main character we couldn’t help but root for, and the twists kept things moving the entire time.
We especially loved that Reese narrated part of the audiobook—she added so much depth and made the story even more engaging.
The ending really worked for us—a great twist that tied everything together while still leaving a few intriguing loose ends. We can’t stop thinking about that moment in the operating room… who was the guy in the ball cap? It definitely feels like there could be more to come.
Overall, such a fun, suspenseful read that kept us hooked start to finish.

📖: Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy
Rating : 4 ⭐️
🤓 : Caroline’s Pick [@cflorence1]

This month’s book gave us so much to talk about. Wild Dark Shore pulled us in with its isolated setting, but what really stayed with us was how deeply we connected to each character. We loved how layered everyone felt and how each person brought something different to the story. Rowan was especially easy to admire—strong, steady, and quietly brave, with so much heart underneath it all. She carried so much weight throughout the book, but in a way that still felt tender and believable.

One of the most interesting parts for us was the idea of the seed bank and all the world’s seeds being stored in one place — such a fascinating concept and honestly something none of us had ever really thought much about before.

We also really loved how each of the children had their own connection to nature, which added so much heart and made the story feel even more alive.

A few parts felt like they were building toward something bigger that never fully played out for us—like the ghosts/voices, Dominic’s past trauma, and the wife’s voice—but overall, this one felt atmospheric, emotional, and beautifully written. Definitely a story that lingered after the last page 🌊🌱📖

📖 : Heart The Lover by @lilykingbooks
Rating: 4.25 ⭐️
🤓 : Book pick by @alisonbirk2

This one may have been short, but it carried so much heart.

The story follows “Jordan” as she navigates complicated love, loyalty, and the tension between choosing others and choosing herself. Through her relationships with Sam and Yash, the book explores complicated emotions, longing, miscommunication, and the quiet bravery it takes to face hard truths. It’s intimate and character-driven — less about plot twists and more about emotional honesty.

Our thoughts:
- We loved Jordan. She felt strong in a quiet, real way — especially in how she faced tough moments head on.
- Sam left us torn. We wished he had made better choices, but we also felt like there were things he was carrying that we didn’t fully see.
- And Yash… we had such mixed emotions. We loved his passion, his depth, and the way he truly saw Jordan. Their connection felt meaningful and intense. But we were definitely frustrated at times — he could be selfish, and that made things complicated. Still, his love never felt surface-level, and that’s what made it hard to look away.
- We also really admired Jordan’s husband. The way he supported her in trying to make things right showed so much maturity and grace. It takes a big person to step back and handle something like that with steadiness. That part really stood out to us.

Overall, such an emotional read. It packed a punch for such a short book. ❤️

📖: The Heart’s Invisible Furies by @johnboyneauthor
Rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
🤓 : Sarah’s Pick [@sarahannechastain]

Loved Cyril. Yelled at Cyril. Rooted for Cyril.

From the very beginning—born to a woman shamed by the Church and forced to flee to Dublin in hopes of a better life for both of them— Cyril’s life felt like a series of losses stacked on top of one another.
His adoptive parents were deeply flawed and often cruel, shaped by the time and place they lived in.
Thank goodness for Catherine Goggin—smart, loyal, and endlessly steady—showing up again and again when Cyril needed someone to truly see him. And then there’s Julian… the love that quietly shaped so much of Cyril’s inner world, even when it was impossible or painfully out of reach.
Watching Cyril marry Julian’s sister, Alice, in an attempt to live the life expected of him—and then leave it behind—was heartbreaking. As he moves through adulthood, he searches for belonging again and again: across cities, identities, and chosen family. His relationship with Inyac, whom he loves almost like a son, and connections like Bastion felt like steps toward healing.
The ending—realizing that Catherine was his birth mother all along—felt devastating and perfect. And we leave Cyril finally, truly happy.

Long? Yes. Worth it? Completely.

I just want to hug Cyril and tell him how proud I am of everything he survived. 🥹📖
