Common Ground’s year of “first-evers” ✨

We’re excited to reflect and celebrate some of our community’s incredible achievements.

This year we:
🧡 Launched Dreamy Season 2 and two learning kits
🧡 Celebrated five years of First Nations Bedtime Stories
🧡 Welcomed a new generation of Creators Circle storytellers
🧡 Went on a Creators Circle gathering from Mparntwe to Kurku to Uluru.
🧡 Shared NAIDOC Keep the Fire Burning! learning resource.
🧡 Introduced Grounded Story, our first-ever grant round supporting early-stage First Nations creatives to share a storytelling project linked to spirit.
🧡 Released the 2024-2030 Common Ground Strategy
🧡 Received a NAIDOC award nomination in the innovation category

It was a big year of connection, creativity and meaningful storytelling to change systems
and we look forward to continuing this journey with you in the new year✨

Find out more about our work in 2024 via the link in our bio.

Common Ground has been selected as a finalist for the 2023 Human Rights Awards in the Media and Creative Industries category 🧡

It's an honour to be recognised for our commitment to human rights alongside some incredible nominees doing important work across different systems. Shout out to some other First Nations nominees including @mechelleturvey, Maggie Blanden (@moogiewoogieee) & Keshi Moore (@messy_kessy)/@naarmlawstudentsonvoice, @sarahwilliamss5/@whatwereyouwearing_ and the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia. A special shoutout to @sisters_inside_inc too, for their unwavering solidarity and care for our communities.

Our deepest gratitude to all the mob who contribute to and shape Common Ground every day. We wouldn't be us without you. And a big thank you to our online community who continue to support and share our work.

Lastly, we must never forget that human rights are for everyone, everywhere. First Peoples globally need our care, our voices and our solidarity.

This week I hosted a staff retreat for @strongbrotherstrongsister. It was an amazing time of connecting with each other and country. As mentors for young Aboriginal people, these guys also needed time to be mentored as well as rest. Safe to say no one left hungry!!!

We love Wally Wilfred 🖤

Wally’s Dhapi Ceremony, a traditional design from his grandfather reworked in his own unique style of bold contemporary colour, at home with some beautiful friends of Laundry Gallery.
