⛳️🍂 Dr. Fieleke and friends enjoyed the beautiful fall weather at the Creekmoor golf course at the KC Fellowship of Christian Athletes golf tournament! And yes, of course he re-applied SPF 😉 Thanks to @golfguylogan at @fairwayclubkc for being a part of our team.

🎉🎈It’s our eighth birthday today!

As we look back on the past eight years, we are incredibly grateful to all our patients and our wonderful Lee’s Summit community!

When you step in our office to receive treatment for acne, skin cancer, psoriasis, warts — you name it — we truly hope that you notice something different.

To us, you’re more than your skin condition.

We don’t just care for all the conditions of your skin, hair and nails, we care for YOU!

The past eight years have flown by, and we look forward to many more years serving Lee’s Summit and surrounding communities with expert, compassionate dermatologic care.

☀️Sunscreen Every Day: Five Mineral Sunscreens for Your Face ⬇️

Here are five mineral sunscreens we put to the test while on vacation and enjoyed … these are specifically branded as facial sunscreens.

☀️ @vacationinc Shake Shake SPF 50 mineral milk
☀️ @neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Liquid Sunscreen (mineral, sensitive skin) SPF 70
☀️ @neutrogena Mineral UV Tint Face Liquid SPF 30
☀️ @larocheposay Anthelios Tinted Mineral Light Fluid Sunscreen
☀️ @sunbum Mineral Sunscreen Roll-on Lotion SPF 50

We found that the first 4 listed did not leave a white cast, which of course we liked!

TIP: The Sun Bum rolls on white but rubs in. We think this roll on would be excellent for using with younger kids or letting them help apply (and being able to see spots they missed!)

😮 Did you know 80% of UV rays pass through the clouds?!

So while it may *seem* a little counterintuitive to wear sunscreen + seek shade on a cloudy day, it’s really not!

Don’t get a sneaky sunburn! Even on a cloudy day:

☁️ Wear SPF 40+ every day, reapplying every 2 hours anytime you’re outdoors.
☀️ Seek shade during peak sun hours 10 AM to 4 PM
☁️ Wear sun-protective clothing, hats and glasses

SPF is a non-negotiable!

Forgot your sunscreen? Dr. Fieleke ALWAYS has some to share! 😉

His tips:
☀️ Use Enough: Apply about 1 ounce (a shot glass full) to your entire body, and don’t forget easily missed spots like the tops of your ears, feet, and your part line.
☀️ Reapply: Reapply at least every two hours, and immediately after swimming or heavy sweating.

☀️Skin Cancer Survivor Spotlight: Shonna Dexter

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and today is known as Melanoma Monday — intended to spotlight this often neglected and deadliest form of skin cancer.

Shonna Dexter, owner of Kansas City sunless tanning studio @recreatingrays , was 34 when she was first diagnosed with two basal cell carcinomas and an early-stage melanoma. 😮

She had spent many years in tanning beds in an effort to get a ‘base tan.’ In fact, research shows that any tanning bed use before the age of 35 increases your risk of melanoma by 59%

As a skin cancer survivor, Shonna’s passion is now to provide women with the only safe tan — a sunless one. She’s vigilant about sun protection and regularly sees her dermatologist to monitor her skin.

If you’ve seen some sun and now have a few spots of concern, we don’t judge! The earlier skin cancer is diagnosed and treated, the better your outcome.

✨ Research shows micronceedling stimulates collagen and elastin production up to 400% after six months of treatment, with effects persisting up to 1 year.

How? Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels that trigger a wound-healing response in three phases:

1️⃣ Inflammation
2️⃣ Proliferation
3️⃣ Remodeling

This activates platelet growth factors to produce collagen and elastin. ➡️ Your post-treatment outcome is smoother texture, reduction in fine lines, smaller pores and more even skin texture and overall glowy skin!

Call 816-287-1528 to schedule your series of microneedling treatments at Cornerstone Dermatology.

Feature Friday: Meet Brooklyn

We’re so grateful to have Brooklyn here with us as she completes her college degree and goes on to PA school! We believe in great things for her! 👏

Studies show azelaic acid may be helpful for post-inflammatory pigmentation — especially for patients with sensitive skin or darker skin types!

Spring is here—which means it’s time to give your makeup drawer a fresh start 🌸✨

If your beauty stash is overflowing, expired, or just plain chaotic, a quick spring clean can make your routine feel so much lighter (and more hygienic!).

Here’s how to refresh your makeup drawer:
🌿 Start with a full reset: Take everything out. Yes, everything. It’s the best way to see what you actually have (and how much you’ve been holding onto 👀).

🧴 Check expiration dates
* Mascara: 3–6 months
* Liquid eyeliner: 6 months
* Foundation: ~1 year
* Powders: up to 2 years
When in doubt—throw it out.

💄 Declutter with honesty: If you haven’t used it in the last 6–12 months, ask yourself why. Wrong shade? Didn’t love the formula? Let it go.

🧼 Clean your tools & packaging: Wipe down compacts, wash your brushes and sponges, and sanitize what you’re keeping. Fresh tools = healthier skin and smoother application.
