🛹 What does Skate, Create, Educate, Regenerate mean to you?

Dr. Indigo Willings asked me that question. @goodwillinghunting

To me, the answer is more than a few simple words… it’s a feeling, a sense of action, it’s life. As a visual storyteller, I had to answer it visually, so here’s a visual essay of sorts.

The SkateCER Lab (@skatecerlab) is an international initiative and growing enterprise exploring, highlighting, and fostering what it means to skate, create, educate, and regenerate together. It brings research expertise and community knowledge together to explore new approaches to creating safer, more inclusive skate spaces and programs for social good.

🎥 Who the fuck is April Jones?

April Jones is an award-winning artist, documentary filmmaker, and impact journalist. Jones uses immersive journalism and documentary storytelling as tools for community organizing, civic engagement, and challenging systems that limit access to skateboarding. For more than a decade, Jones has built a body of fieldwork documenting DIY skateparks and community-built spaces around the world. Her work reveals how communities create new models of belonging in response to institutional neglect. @dream_evil_pictures

Every kid deserves a place where they feel seen, supported, and stoked. 💙🛹

The Free Skate Foundation (@theFreeSkateFoundation) is doing just that!

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, they’re filling an important need in the community through free skateboarding programs and opportunities that go far beyond the ramps.

From their Books for Boards program where kids can earn a brand new skateboard deck by reading a book and writing a book report, to free mentorship, skate guidance, snacks, drinks, and a welcoming space to connect, Free Skate Foundation is proving that skateparks can be powerful community centers.

Because let’s be honest… who doesn’t love free snacks? 🍎🥤

Thank you to everyone who shows up and makes this possible for the next generation, one book, one skateboard, and one kid at a time.
