Could be Better
Tennessee, 2023

I have a playlist started ages ago just entitled “the stranglehold of grief,” and it’s had “cringe fail girlfriend” on it since the first time I heard it. This beautifully lofi guitar track goes on for a minute for the vocals come in with heart wrenching poetry straight out the gate. “vividly remembering the comfort that i found in your arms; while crying over the same fears i face now. but this time your not around.” I can see exactly why it made the playlist for when March gets the best of me. Somehow it’s been another year, I hope I still make you proud, somewhere. “Pathetic, beautiful,” is another beautiful track off these demos. This one handling more the aftermath of relationship drama, and begging to help make it right. It ends with “you saw me at my most pathetic and you told me i was beautiful.” And with the emo centric mathy guitar and pounding bass. The poem on the track “Ki Swan,” just cures through the facade and is entirely vulnerable and raw. Someone asked me how I’ve been, their eyes kind and worried, I couldn’t lie. “Could be better, but I’ve been worse.”

“is there some way that i can lift the weight off yr shoulders? can i release just a bit of that pressure constricting yr lungs? is it just a little easier when i’m beside you? do i make it any easier at all? you tell me you’re sorry, i believe you.

you saw me at my most pathetic and you told me i was beautiful.”
