Traditional Zarb Dinner cooked underground.

This is how it starts.

Before the feast, before the smoke, before the moment they lift the lid and the whole desert smells like slow-cooked lamb — it starts here.

Fire. Sand. Patience.

Zarb is Bedouin underground cooking. Meat and vegetables buried in a pit with hot coals, sealed in, left alone for hours. No rushing it. The desert sets the pace.

I have eaten at a lot of tables in a lot of countries.

Nothing has ever come close to the moment a zarb gets opened in Wadi Rum at sunset.

Some things are worth waiting for.

What to know before you go:
→ Open April 1 to October 31 only, and it can still close after rain
→ Self-guided, no booking needed. Allow 2 to 3 hours
→ About 23 JD for non-Jordanians. It’s NOT on the Jordan Pass
→ Arrive early. The trail closes mid-afternoon
→ Everything gets wet. Leave your phone in the car or bring a waterproof pouch
→ Wear shoes with grip. The rocks are slick

Would you go for it, or watch from the bank?

Save this for your Dead Sea day.

The Jordan Pass question comes up every week in my DMs. Here’s the full answer — including the one rule that saves you 40 JOD that almost nobody knows before they land.

Save this for when you’re planning your trip.

After 12 years and more in Jordan, here’s what I wish someone had told me before my first time in Jordan.

Nobody tells you what it’s actually like to walk through Petra as a woman.

Not the travel blogs. Not the guidebooks. Not the friend who went with a tour group and spent three hours at the Treasury and left.

The stuff that actually matters — what to wear so you blend in, how to handle the entrance without losing your nerve, the access you get that male travellers simply don’t — none of that makes it into the standard Petra guide.

I’ve walked that canyon more times than I can count. With groups, alone, at sunrise, in the rain.

Every time, I learn something new. Every time, I think: someone should have told me this.

So here it is. Swipe through — this one’s for you.

→ Save this before your Jordan trip. And if you know someone planning one, send it to her.

The first time I turned down tea in Jordan, I didn’t mean to be rude.
I was full. Tired. I genuinely didn’t want another cup. So I said no, and watched something shift in my host’s face — not anger, but something quieter than that. A small deflation.
It took me months to understand what I’d done.
Saying no to food or drink in Jordan isn’t the end of a conversation. It’s the beginning of one. The offer, the refusal, the offer again — it’s a call and response that communicates something about who you are. A person who accepts too quickly seems greedy. A person who refuses too many times leaves their host without purpose.
The whole thing runs on a system I’d never been taught. And once I started to see it, I saw it everywhere — in how men greet each other in the street, in the two hours it takes to finalize a 20-minute meeting, in the way a stranger will wave you into their home as if they’ve been expecting you.
Jordan has a social grammar. And it’s worth learning before you arrive, because once you understand it, the country opens in a completely different way.
These aren’t quirks. They’re the architecture.

Save this before your trip. Send it to the friend who thinks Jordan is just Petra. 🇯🇴

Did you know Jordan has a city made of MILLIONS of tiny stones?! 🎨🤯

This is MADABA - the “City of Mosaics” 🇯🇴

Inside St. George’s Church there is a 6th-century map made from thousands of coloured stones - it’s more than 1,000 years old and shows the oldest map of the Holy Land!

Every artwork here is made by hand, piece by piece. So much history in one city.

Don’t just plan Petra & Wadi Rum in Jordan - add 1 hour in Madaba if you love history & art. ❤️

Want me to add Madaba to your Jordan itinerary? DM me “JORDAN” - I plan full trips ✈️

Little Petra was quiet this morning. Just the rocks, and the sound of the wind moving through the canyon.

I have been doing this my whole life and I still stop and look around sometimes and think — not everyone gets to work here.

I am lucky and I know it.

If you want to see Little Petra — send me a message. I will make it happen.#jordan #jordantravel #petra #visitjordan🇯🇴 #amazing
