Some losses never become old news.

Decades ago, I lost our first baby. Time continued moving, but Baby J never stopped being part of my story or our family.

Parents are often expected to quietly “move forward,” while carrying birthdays that never happened, milestones no one else remembers and a love that never had enough time.

If someone you love has experienced pregnancy or infant loss, you do not need perfect words. Say their baby’s name. Remember the important dates. Bring a meal. Handle an errand. Keep checking in after everyone else has stopped asking.

Sometimes, “I’m here, and I remember,” is enough.

On October 15 at 7:00 PM, I invite you to light a candle for the Wave of Light. Speak their name if you can. Hold them quietly in your heart if you cannot.

For every baby loved, missed and remembered: your life matters.

If you have an anterior placenta, this is something I want you to know! 🤰❤️

An anterior placenta means your placenta is attached to the front wall of your uterus, creating a cushion between your baby and your belly. Because of this, your baby’s kicks, rolls, and movements may feel softer or be harder to detect.

But here’s what’s important: Having an anterior placenta doesn’t mean you should expect to feel less movement once your baby’s regular movement pattern is established.

You should still get to know what’s normal for YOUR baby. If you notice a decrease in movement, a change in their usual pattern, or something just doesn’t feel right, don’t assume it’s because of your placenta. Contact your care team right away.

Stillbirth can be prevented. Not every stillbirth but many can be! In fact, HALF of term stillbirths, like Hirsha's daughter Thalia's and our daughter Ellory's, can be prevented. This number is WAY TOO HIGH 💔😥

I found that the most valuable part of gathering in person isn’t what happens from the podium. It’s the conversations in the hallways, over meals, and between sessions.

Last week, I traveled to Utah on behalf of @rtzhope and the National Perinatal Loss Collaborative for the @uspalnetwork meeting and @utahstillbirthcenter Symposium.

With Pregnancy After Loss Support recently becoming part of RTZ, it felt especially important to be present at the USPAL meeting—and I was grateful for the chance to reconnect in person with so many people I’ve known through this work for years.

Among them were Debbie from @shineforstillbirth birth, Emily from @countthekicksus , Tomeka of @jacesjourneyinc, @hendersonlafond from Madison’s Closet, Megan from the @rplassociation, Jill Lens, @katherine_hyde_hensley_psyd , and Maddie from Northwestern, Jenn from @empty_arms_bereavement, and Lin from Mt Sinai PAL Clinic. And the folks from UCLA PAL clinic too!

The conversations sparked ideas for future NPLC webinars, possibilities for bringing organizations together in new regions, and more ways we can lift up and learn from others doing this work.

One interaction especially stayed with me. I met a nurse working in rural Utah who shared that she had no resources to give families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss. I was able to hand her a sample packet of our family resources to take back with her.

That small moment was such a good reminder of why being in the room matters.

This work is stronger when we know one another, share what we have, and find ways to work together. 💙
