Released on July 21, 1998, “Time Waits For No Man” is the debut studio solo album from West Coast rapper Rasco (@caliagentno.1) 🕑
Released on Stones Throw Records (@stonesthrow), “Time Waits For No Man” was the first full-length project from Rasco. Representing San Mateo, California, Rasco began his career in the early ‘90’s as a member of the group Various Blends. Venturing off into a solo career by the late ‘90s, Rasco released his first single titled ‘The Unassisted’ in 1997 after signing with the independent label Stones Throw. In 1998, he would go on to release his full-length studio debut “Time Waits For No Man” to underground acclaim. Production on the album was handled by Peanut Butter Wolf (@pntbtrwlf), Paul Nice (@officialpaulnice), Evidence (@evidence), and KutMasta Kurt (@realkutmastakurt), among others. Guest features include Dilated Peoples (@dilatedpeoples), Defari (@mr_defari), Encore (@sbekele), and Planet Asia (@planetasiamedallions) 🕝
After appearing together on the track ‘Take It Back Home’, Rasco and Planet Asia would go on to form their own rap duo. Billed as the Cali Agents on Rasco’s 1999 single ‘Sophisticated Mic Pro’s’/‘Blood Brothaz’, the duo eventually signed with Ground Control Records. Released in 2000, the Cali Agents debut “How The West Was One” received critical acclaim throughout the hip-hop underground, with particular praise given to the duo’s dominant lyricism 🕤

Four retreats deep. Four albums made! Stay tapped in for more from LA, SF, Novato & Santa Cruz.

i run across so many samples from the original Star Wars trilogy when i’m diving in to take notes on some turntable mixes - references like the legendary @skratchbastid Vader/Imperial March routine, or stuff like the droid sound effects on the @ispiklz Battle Records from the 90’s - but i think my favorite star wars samples & scratches are in @djqbert , @mixmastermike , and @cousinvinnieroc ‘s “Cosmic Assassins” from “Wave Twisters, Episode 7 Million: Sonic Wars Within the Protons”.

i think this might be my favorite scratch record of all time so i had to learn it hahah - much love to the legends who made this!!

also - the @herbiehancock sample/break in this first section is so incredible. tried to figure out what the break right before it was but couldn’t find it! if anybody recognizes it, etc - would be stoked to learn more!!

music!!:

@djqbert , @mixmastermike , @cousinvinnieroc - “Cosmic Assassins”

@herbiehancock - “Suite Revenge”

Some of the strongest chapters in DJ culture were built by crews.

Not just through wins, but through style, timing, chemistry, and the way they moved together.

This is part 3 of DJ crews people should know.
