How am I finding my flow again?

After a summer featuring the most traumatic events of my life, I feel like I’m slowly finding my way back to myself.

How?

Part of me wants to say I’ve prioritized time alone, but that’s a lie. I haven’t. I’ve somewhat aggressively thrown myself into making new work, collaborations, projects and events and parties and travel and movement and finding out what living looks like now that the life I knew died.

And it’s in the living that I’m starting to recognize myself again.

It’s in the faces of the people I love, both old and new, that I can see her, a woman I lost, a woman filled with joy and passion and strength.

And time like this, time spent in loving and collaborative creation, is what is bringing me back.

For those of you who have been present for me - thank you. You know who you are and I am infinitely grateful.

This clip shows the roots forming for my new series, ‘Flow.’ A series of paintings I cannot wait to expand upon as I continue to rediscover myself and find my flow.

Onwards and upwards 🌱
With love,
Alex

A beginning and an ending often start at the same point 🔃

And sometimes these separate stories overlap for longer than we want, but for exactly the amount of time needed to both grieve and rejoice… however painful it may be.

In this story, over the course of one week of events hosted at @covertcollective.ams, we mourned the loss of old love while celebrating the arrival of the new. We danced, we laughed, we cried, we worked insanely hard to pull this off and we curated a space for creativity, connection, and authenticity, surrounded by art - wearable or hanging.

A new collection from @amstel_bleach surrounded by a new series of artwork that Alex created using vintage denim sewn into canvas by @blazinbell and bleached by @rabinasty.

We were supported by magical creators. From live music by @semkramer_ and @floris.kolner (the sound in this brilliant video) to the footage captured by legendary @aaldrikb_ . We hosted a panel talk together with @su.privat and we heard music from many badass DJs (@jerrod_e seen in this video).

@rabinasty organized an upcycling workshop, @nico.daydreams and @carmensantana_ led a high tea and @kamiwaza_festival takeover, @selfpower_project led a gorgeous sound healing…

It was wild.
Profound.
Playful.
Professional.
Yet layered with all the divine messiness of what it is to be an artist.

We had it all. And we thank you to every one of the hundreds of people who came through to support and witness and co-create the magic.

For now, this chapter has closed, but stay tuned for whatever we cook up next. We need a few rest days but rest assured, something is brewing ☕️

With love,
Alex + Anastasiya

@amsterdamdanceeventlive 2025! It was amazing! Starting with the exhibition about Dutch Rave Culture of @thunderboomrecords and the book and immersive experience of @clubcult.nl. Dancing with my Hermana @lari_monteirodacosta

Having A talk about belonging in clubculture with @su.privat @covertcollective.ams connected through my sisters of @wumanas_ and ending it with the finisage of @dadara_art

We connected with so many beautiful people and artists who are creating oneness at many places through art and music.

Thank you everyone who worked, danced, loved, and created with us during this week of dance and club culture. 😻 Thanks @kochxbos and @jo.ke___ for weaving the finisage of @dadara_art together. ❤️🙏

it was just you & me in university,,, it felt like we were the only girls taking household, financial, and whatever other dialects of economics. there wasn’t anyone else like us. You became a lawyer, I became a data scientist …. Living out an identity that wasn’t ours for long.

… and somehow, we ended up here now. There couldn’t be any other way. @alexcovert.art I’m so proud of you. @covertcollective.ams

I started painting again 🌱

During this past year of major struggles, moving twice (while thinking the last house was possibly my forever home), a transformative breakup, a complete reconfiguration of the people I hold closest to me, I barely painted at all.

With some distance from the complete overwhelm of all that change, I’ve realized that I need to feel safe in order to find the freedom to create, and a lot of the people and places I was in made me feel deeply unsafe.

For months, even before the breakup, I was crying every day. I had panic attacks, I found myself taking anti-anxiety medication for the first time in my life, I would struggle to breathe just entering the place that was supposedly my home.

And I constantly overrode my body’s fear responses, telling myself if I just tried harder, did even more therapy, was better at meditating, had a stronger exercise routine, partied less, then these feelings would dissipate. But they didn’t. My body was telling me that the path I was on was not aligned for me.

When everything exploded, I asked myself “how can I ever trust anyone again?”

But then I started to remember how clear my body had been with me for months, and it dawned on me that there is someone I can trust completely… and that person is me.

And if I lean into myself, if I trust myself, if I listen to my body when she tells me “get the F outta there!”, then I can basically trust my entire existence. I can lean back and enter the flow state again.

So no wonder that, as I made the difficult decisions that put me back towards alignment, I so quickly met people who have changed my life and supported me in accessing my creative play state again.

My current project is a series of collaborative paintings and events with @rabinasty, the brilliant creative behind @amstel_bleach. We met the day my last relationship ended and our creative partnership has taken off since. We’re going to show our work on October 21, 22, 24, and 27 with some fresh art, vintage clothes, excellent live music, local DJs, drinks, workshops, and sound healing. You’re invited.

Everything has changed and I’m genuinely loving it. So let’s celebrate together ♥️

Xo,
Alex

I’ve never collaborated like this before.

It feels real, raw, easy, natural, fluid. There’s passion and fire and so much laughter. But we also get shit done.

Nearly two months ago, @rabinasty and I had our first spontaneous brainstorm under the light of the full moon in a magical forest.

In that moment, I had the idea to take her vintage denim and use it as my canvas. Since then, that idea has grown into something I couldn’t have ever imagined…

The vintage jeans, with years of wear and tear, traveled from Nastya to me, I delivered them to local legend @blazinbell who turned the jeans into gorgeous canvas pieces for me. Back to @amstel_bleach who bleached every canvas, delivering the final artworks to me at @thegardensofbabylon, after which I had to bring them by @peacock.garden and eventually get them to my painting studio at @broedplaatssup.

Last weekend, we had our first session to actually paint on and add layers to these new artworks.

It’s a whole different way of working - to collaborate so closely with multiple artists. I loved it, and I can’t wait to keep working on this series. And then we got so lucky to have @aaldrikb_ come hang out and take incredible photos of this magical moment.

These canvasses have traveled long and far, they’ve been to parties and art studios and, in three weeks, will hang at @covertcollective.ams where you can even bring them home. A piece of history, canvas and art and power, that you can hang as a totem for creativity and play.

With love and magic ✨

The moon was full and our hearts were broken.

Two creators came into contact, not for the first time, but the first real moment of connection after years of passing each other in the night.

The party ended at midnight, but we stayed up far later, drinking wine under the light of the full moon portal and scheming our collaboration. Interrupted only by bouts of laughter, we divined a collection and a series of paintings that we would create together, a spontaneous flow that erupted from the ether.

And now comes the time to announce how you can come witness our magic.

🖼️👩‍🎨📸♥️

I am finally sharing the photos about my solo exhibition that happened three weeks ago!
I was not feeling to share before because I was not in the best mood lately.
Funny how emotions have been a subject that I've been creating over and thinking about for now a while, but still it remains a big mystery for me in so many ways. And I feel that it's an never ending exploration.

I feel that, yes, we have, for sure, some tools to express the emotions, and reflect on them, and alchemise them, but, at the same time, it is also this fluidic form that we don't have total control over, or at least I feel that I don't.
And it's for me being able to let go that I don't have this total control of this constantly moving energy that will influence my life and go through myself in many different forms, many different intensities, and for different durations.

Also, this is such a thin line between acknowledging the emotion and being willing to transform it, but at the same time putting no resistance against it, because this makes (again speaking in my experience) the transformation impossible.

And when exploring challenging emotions, it feels natural to want to alchemise them, transform them, get out of them quickly.
But at the same time, I know how a powerful message from the soul they can be.
Is there maybe a way that I can approach things differently or change things in my life?
Or does the emotion just need to be welcomed, felt, while understanding the source or not.
I am passionate about the subject and, feeling myself things very intensely, I am constantly learning from my own experience.
I hope to keep on finding ways to share more of those learnings to others.
For now, I'm sharing some of my thoughts on the way. ♥️

📸 Cheers to @journeyofdemeter for the photos

Thank you for this moment girls!
This was too good not to share! 😁
A pure moment of fun and impro!
Sunday, the last day of the exhibition, the day was starting very slowly, with not much visit as the rest of the weekend. My friend @journeyofdemeter joined and we started to dance, having fun. Soon after, @emceedevries joined and we started doing this funny more or less coordinated dance.
Creativity, collaboration and fun, just everything that I love.
I'm grateful for this first solo exhibition.
For all the love and nice feedback that I received!
Thanks a lot to everyone that could join, this meant a lot to me!
Thank you @alexcovert.art for this super cool opportunity in your beautiful gallery @covertcollective.ams
More pictures/ videos coming soon!
