She's a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Turns out that matters more to her business than most people would guess.

Sienna Aguilar has burnt out more than once, from work she genuinely cared about. What she learned from that isn't the usual advice. Doubt and overwhelm don't just live in the mind. They show up in the shoulders, the stomach, the body holding tension long before the thoughts catch up.

On the mat, she found something transferable. Find the path of least resistance instead of forcing an outcome. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. And maybe the hardest one: learning to feel proud of yourself no matter who wins the match.

That last lesson didn't come easy. It came back from a serious injury, stepping onto the mat again and realising her ability was never up for debate, win or lose.

Her take on imposter syndrome cuts just as clean: almost every woman faces it, almost no man does. Not a personal flaw to fix quietly. A pattern worth naming and pulling apart in the open.

Confidence isn't built by thinking harder. It's built by moving, noticing, and trusting the body enough to act before you feel ready.

Thank you Sienna for giving us the opportunity to feature your story! 👏

🎙️In this conversation with @siennaaguilarco we discuss the importance of tuning into our bodies to identify what we are capable of doing, creating awareness of our strengths, blockages and challenges.

We would love to see @covreco grow and look forward to collaborating in the future.

If you’re looking for a meaningful space to build self-trust and steadiness, Sienna has developed a set of strategies based on principles of embodiment and mindfulness. ✨

✨ What if our nervous systems felt safe enough not just to imagine the familiar, but to imagine something new for our futures? ✨

One that includes our own wellbeing when we’re making a difference in the world?

I’ll be hosting Virtual Cuppa Check Ins to pause and ground in these sorts of questions with folks committed to caring for ourselves and each other.

Go to the #LinkInBio to help shape these virtual spaces coming soon.

Nothing like an evening with awesome folks and hearing about valuable women led startups to fill my cup!

Tonight was the celebration and pitch night for Cohort 3 of the #AnyoneCanBuild program by @creative_cooperative and hosted by @startwithhex.

As someone new to the entrepreneur ecosystem and business world, it’s been a game changer finding encouraging and experienced mentors. (Even more so when they’re women of colour giving cheerleader aunty and big sister vibes ☺️)

Community is a big part of what I do, so connecting with peers and seeing our collective lived and professional expertise in the room was an energising reminder to keep moving forward.

Congrats to all the participants on completing the program, and to the organisers and mentors who continue to foster space for more diverse women to impact the world.

There’s always enough room to contribute something positive, and I look forward to seeing what grows in the future.

For those wanting a change of pace from busy minds and a deeper connection to the body while navigating life and career, Mindful Mat Project co-founder @siennaaguilarco (she/her) offers a refreshing approach.

A facilitator and life/career coach, Sienna (“Shenna”) helps individuals and groups tap into their own and collective resilience through mind-body practices inspired by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). Her upcoming programs in the #GroundedResilienceWorkshop draw on over 9 years on the BJJ mats, postgraduate studies in systems thinking, and work advancing gender-responsive approaches to health and wellbeing. Off the BJJ mats, she’s exploring modeling and creative projects as collaborative forms of self-expression ✨

These influences shape her curiosity about how we can make fitness and wellness ‘mats’ of all kinds more inclusive, equitable, and grounded in diverse lived experience.

I almost didn’t share this reflection.

As someone planting seeds to grow her own business, the last couple of months have been full of firsts:
🌱 Ran the first ever #GroundedResilience gatherings (past pretotype phase)
🌱 Facilitated a community workshop with mostly older migrant women
🌱 Booked my first paid coaching client
🌱 Registered the business name!
🌱 Ran a hybrid workshop for a workplace (with the team interstate at their office and me facilitating remotely)

While it might seem easy to list a neat set of deliverables (which I’m proud of!), behind the scenes has been a longer period of grappling with imposter syndrome, procrastination and perfectionism.

It wasn’t until I began testing things out that I realised I’m not starting from scratch. What I’m creating is the culmination of different parts of my life and career over decades. While it may be a new expression (BJJ-inspired “mindful movement” programs), facilitating, training, researching ideas, having people feel heard and ready to make a difference for themselves and those around them, is “just what I do”.

(And I AM good at what I do..!)

Learning to tune into my own body and build self-trust has been a huge part of that process. So when a friend asked how I wanted to commemorate my first event, the first thing I thought of was a tattoo 🤭Instead of dismissing it (as an old version of me would have), I let it simmer and let myself listen to my gut. Because if I’m building a business supporting others to be grounded within themselves, trusting their bodies, I have to keep learning and practising that for myself.

There will always be things that knock me off my base. Now I have something to remind me, “Am I listening to my body? Am I listening to my intuition?” Instead of looking at a watch, I can look my 🖤 and check in with myself: no matter how many times I fall down, I can always come back and take actions I’d be proud of.

✨ What reminder can you give yourself today? ✨

#TB Ran our first ever in-person #GroundedResilience workshop with the Wonderful Women’s Group @hubcommunityprojects in Inala QLD, exploring gentle movement and self-defense informed by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

🌱 We talked about ways we can move our body when we feel stressed or want to lift our mood.

🌱 We practised standing calm and strong in our ‘base’.

🌱 We even learned simple ways to defend ourselves and break someone’s unwanted grip (making sure to ask our training partners for permission to practise the moves).

It’s one thing to know you can stand strong in the face of challenges. It’s another thing to feel it within yourself, and also to see/feel how strong the women around you are.

Great to be in a room of so many different languages, ages and backgrounds, where women can tune into their bodies and get a felt sense of what they’re capable of.

We finished off the group with their regular delicious lunch prepared by the wonderful volunteers 🍲

Thank you to @hubcommunityprojects for partnering!

If you’re interested in running #GroundedResilience programs with your group or workplace, we currently have introductory pricing for pilot opportunities in Southeast QLD, or online across Australia. Express interest today: #LinkInBio

At an online gathering several years ago, June Oscar AO, a Bunuba woman and a former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, invited us to stop, listen, think and trust differently, to act differently.

So I did.

Our recent EOY reflection was a space for me to stop and listen to my body, all in the pursuit of moving differently.

Thanks to those who joined us at the gathering. I can’t wait to see how our harvests from this gathering guide you differently in the new year 🌱✨

With compassion and kindness,
J xx

Community is an important pillar for me personally, professionally and in my advocacy. Being around others with shared values to bounce around ideas, celebrate wins, witness each other’s challenges and provide support and positive accountability is central to my growth and the growth of others.

Community is also a key part of collective care - it can shape cultures within our groups, schools, organisations and movements to centre wellbeing and dignity for people of all genders, abilities, races, classes and backgrounds.

As we reach the end of 2025, I’m grateful for the conversations I’ve had recently. I’ve connected with folks doing awesome things in the world (locally, nationally and internationally!). I’ve sought advice, tested ideas and explored possibilities for a new business (watch this space!).

Looking forward to continuing these conversations and connecting with others doing aligned work.

Here’s to more fruitful connections and planting seeds in 2026.

I’d planned to take the second half of 2025 off on sabbatical after finishing a large, three-year contract, mostly solo and remote. Even while building values-aligned communities in gender-responsive health, I still experienced burnout.

Perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and not-for-profit norms of chronic over-giving caught up with me, amplified by recovery from a serious knee injury and the end of a long-term relationship.

That reckoning made something clear. Until I included myself in the collective care I advocate for, I would keep tying my worth to productivity.

This season marks the start of a new chapter of how I contribute to the world. One where I can integrate my trauma-informed facilitation, human-centred coaching and a love of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and systems thinking to support more sustainable ways of working and leading.

If this aligns with where you’re headed in 2026, comment, connect, or send me a message.
