POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Some rounds are about the score. Others are about the place. Sullivan County Golf Club is one of those.

You probably aren’t going to shoot your best score on this mountainside nine-holer in the Catskills, but that doesn’t matter. The story of this place is what matters.

Fresh off celebrating its 100th year last year and a new routing, SCGC is rugged yet relaxed, engaging yet peaceful.

At its core, golf is a field with a flag at the end. But we all know golf is more than that; it’s about community. That can be resigned to the clubhouse, but at SCGC, the routing also highlights community with its central hub of 1 green, 2 tee, 4 green, 5 tee, 8 green, and 9 tee all at the base of the hill. You’re never too far away from crossing paths with another golfer on the mountainous trek chasing their own white ball to a flag at the end.

Tom Coyne in his book, A Course Called Home, says “I didn’t know that the best golf hole was the one you were playing. I didn’t know the best course was the one you called home.”

While this isn’t the local course for many, SCGC is certainly a place all can call home.

There’s always something different on the Links, but one thing is for sure……the greens are pure!

MARK THOSE CALENDARS.

The latest on our June 17th U.S. Open Party at @hattysclub.

We’ve got an enormous prize pool lined up for those who come out. Celebrating this year’s third major is going to be a hoot on a Wednesday night.

Just getting around to cataloging snaps from our eastern New York trip in June. The last stop on the trip is the first stop in this series.

@scgc1925 is a rustic gem. What tender, loving care from @smyerscraigandcoyne @coynewriter @coynegolf @gorsenod it will be the main attraction in the Catskills before too long.

That’s a wrap on the #brokenteesociety Open Experience. Exceptional craic. Great group of people; arrived strangers, leaving as road-tested friends. Very grateful to be part of the @golfersjournal community.
