Hidden in Plain Sight

was part of the inspiration behind choosing the Ricoh GR III camera for Star Trails back in 2023. I wanted a camera that could capture real moments without making people feel like they had to pose or become camera shy in front of a big camera and lens.

The small build of the Ricoh allows me to be a fly on the wall capturing moments from the trails to the streets. It’s a camera I take EVERYWHERE.

I really love photography, but what I appreciate most is seeing how differently we all view the same world. Portraits, documentary, landscapes, & everyday life. Give ten people a camera on the same block and you’ll probably get ten completely different photographs. That’s what makes it special. Your perspective matters. Take the photo, even if no one else ever sees it.

My love for photography started when I saw the work my uncle was shooting. They weren’t the usual family gatherings or holiday photos. They were candid frames of friends, everyday moments, and parts of the city that no longer exist. The idea that you could capture a moment in time and keep it forever fascinated me.

For a long time, being a “photographer” felt like something you had to pursue professionally to take seriously. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized photography doesn’t have to be a profession to be meaningful. For me, it’s therapeutic. It keeps me curious, makes me pay attention, and has become part of my everyday life.

That’s the spirit behind this photo walk. No pressure to create the perfect image. No right or wrong way to shoot. Just bring whatever camera you have, walk the neighborhood, pay attention to what’s around you, and photograph what catches your eye.

Sometimes the best photographs are already there hidden in plain sight.
