“The Idiot” is a fascinating debut - dark, trippy and full of sounds that keep pulling your attention in different directions.

There are effects all over the track, from warped instrumental textures to strange little production details that make the whole thing feel slightly disorientating in a really interesting way. It’s the kind of song where you keep noticing something new, and there’s a real sense that Cracked Lime are already building a world of their own.

What a first release. I’m very intrigued to hear where they go next.

Enigmatic London duo Cracked Lime (@cracked_lime) emerge from the shadows with debut single ‘The Idiot’ via Strong Island Recordings.

Cutting their teeth in venues across the city while refining a performance style that blends post-punk sharp guitars with electronic beats and a lingering trip-hop feel, their live show has been previously described as “Portishead with James Bond guitars”. Blending hypnotic existentialist spoken word, melodic interventions, noisy texture and a sharp dance-y weird rhythm section, they evolve on stage in a minimalistic setup: two guitars, two vocals, drum machines, samples, and a handful of synthesisers.

So far they have played shows with Wing!, Spanish Horses, SILVERWINGKILLER and have begun attracting excited word of mouth whispers, sure to get louder with the by turns jittery and languorous debut single. Produced by Tom Kellett (Moreish Idols, Pearl2, Mauv, Clara Mann), ‘The Idiot’ is an attempt at keeping things odd, mysterious, and understated, amidst a non-conventional structure.
