Writing stuff this week. 💜 My contributor copy of @stanchionzine came in the mail. I have a micro in here, and there are award winning authors in this issue! You can order a copy. Link below. 💜 I made a new image for my @crafting_first_chapters blog. Simple, chic, no AI. 💜 I got to interview @aniking_author about their upcoming collection Family Night and that will be published on my blog tomorrow! 💜 I cut out words from adverts and a few old cards to play around with poetry, sort of like magnetic poetry kits. But the words you find in ads are different and some interesting lines came from it. And I listened to my audiobook while I cut out the words. 💜 I'm available for feedback on your writing. I'm a reader for two different lit mags and I know why things are getting rejected. https://www.stanchionzine.com/product-page/stanchion-magazine-issue-23 #literarymagazine #writingcommunity #flashfiction #poetry #firstchapters

Books I’m looking forward to this fall/winter — the “I smashed that pre-order button” edition! - “When it Gets Cold in the South” by Exodus Oktavia Brownlow @coocoo4afropuffs (Screen Door Press, University of Kentucky Press), released on Jan. 26! Exodus has one of the most original and distinctive storytelling voices I’ve ever read — when I read her stories, I feel like my mind just blooms with new possibilities. I got to hear her read at 804 Lit Salon’s AWP off-site reading, and she was kind enough to autograph the first page of her story in my copy of EastOver Press’s “An Anthology of Rural Stories by Writers of Color” ❤️ (P.S., the list of talents who’ve penned glowing blurbs about Exodus’s new book is staggering — Deesha Philyaw! Kiese Laymon! Addie E. Citchens!) - “Book of David” by Mallory Smart @malsmart (House of Vlad Press), released on Oct. 7! I’m a newcomer to the work of Mallory Smart, but I’ve been following along with her adventures and commentary while exploring Bulgaria this summer, and both that entertainment/enlightenment and everything she’s said so far about this book have made me sure it will be a new favorite of mine. - “Call My Body a Cautionary Tale” by Christina Tudor @christinaltudor (Thirty West), released on Oct. 23! Christina is one of my favorite flash writers, a magical maestro at carving up these stunning gems, and I was *so* excited when she announced that she had a collection coming out. Hayley Shucker has a wonderful, in-depth interview with Christina on the @crafting_first_chapters “First Chapters” Substack! https://hayleyshucker.substack.com/p/interview-christina-tudors-debut - “The Periodic Family: Stories” by Claudia Monpere (Cowboy Jamboree Press), @cowboyjamboreepress released on Oct. 13! I’m such a fan of Claudia’s work — I’ve assigned her work for my monthly CNF group when it was my turn to be group leader, and I’ve now written two pieces *directly* inspired by CNF pieces of hers (one is being published next month by L’Esprit; the other has been submitted to a few places). So yes, I was over the moon to see she has a collection coming out ❤️
