Oxford ceramics fair is next weekend !
So I am completing everything early 🙃
Kitchen table drawings turned into 3D creatures and imagined beings ... then glazed and fired .... and now with their individual plinths.

I have noticed that they are on the move. Not still, static watching listening .. but rather active doing creatures. With so many things to do! And to take part in. ( make of this what you will... psychology is always a very fascinating area of interest for me!)

This week I have a first year wedding anniversary.
Its half term
My husbands birthday
A trip to denmark
Oxford ceramics fair
And.... a house move which is unfolding.

And. Did I mention I have a cat with a box addiction?

Birds in conversation.
H 10cm ( not including the plinth )
Stoneware ceramics and heavy oxide

Coming to Oxford!

Who's going ?!

Jane Cox names her glazes after places. ‘Aquitaine’ turquoise, ‘Loire’ green, ‘Carcassonne’ blue: all in France, where she lived and worked before setting up her studio in the UK.

Her sunrise teabowl, sunrise small jug and butterfly wing platter carry that same sense of landscape. Patterns drawn from nature are cut into the surface with paper resist and sgraffito, then covered in rich, translucent earthenware glazes. It’s a palette Jane has spent twenty years developing, shaped by France, the Caribbean and the Isle of Wight.

Made to stand alone or gather into a set, which makes them good pieces to start a collection with, or to pass on to someone who might.

Jane trained at Camberwell College of Art and the Royal College of Art, and won the Wedgwood Scholarship for surface design. Her work is held in the Fitzwilliam Museum and the British Council Ceramic Collection, and she was elected Master of the Art Workers Guild in 2018.

Last year I visited the Sherwood Forest in preparation for my #collectopen project ‘Palimpsest’. I was there to look at the forest’s nearly 1000 (!!) ancient oaks - each of them absolutely breathtaking and with a completely unique character. I am so glad that I got to see the Major Oak during the last year of its very long life, but also deeply saddened to hear that the forest has lost eight ancient oaks over the last few years due to extreme weather conditions. The piece in the photo was made using sprig moulds taken during last year’s visit, and I will be bringing it with me to #oxfordceramicsfair next weekend. For further info about the event, check out the link in my bio.

Like a lot of potters, I've relied on the controller of my electric kiln to set temperatures, but guess what? Things change... thermocouples that measure the temperature inside the kiln chamber can weaken over time leading to inaccurate temperature readings.

Orton cones measure heatwork, not just a top temperature, you may be able to achieve your desired firing at a substantially lower temperature by extending the top soak.

And don't forget, high rates of climb put stress on all the elements, a slower rate of climb is kinder on your kiln.

If you do have special overnight energy rates then an ultra-fast cycle might save but your kiln elements won't thank you.
