Lighting is one of the best ways we can boost production value. It helps people and businesses look their best, so while takes a big chunk of setup time, it's always worth investing in.

But lighting is a bit nebulous. It isn't really "showy" - in fact you're not supposed to notice it. So here is a quick breakdown of a piece-to-camera lighting setup, showing what each light is doing.

We did a series of these piece-to-camera shots for a large multinational, as part of a high-level communications project. Our client contact told me afterwards that they'd had feedback from across the business about "how many attractive people" there are working at the London office. There sure are! Job done.

Little BTS roundup from 2024.
It’s been an odd year for the industry, which makes me feel even more lucky to have been able to collaborate with some amazing directors, producers, production companies and crews!

Here are some mood boards I created during pre-production for @thelongestdistancefilm. I was able to experiment and research Old WW2 foods for the picnic scenes along with cigarette packets and old letters to create props that would fit the era and be used throughout the film. I wanted it to be as historically accurate as I could be. In my next posts, you will see how my mood boards helped me to create the finished props. Swipe right ➡️ to see the letter prop I made using a real 1940s stamp.

Throwback to testing monster suits- this time of year back in 2015. That’s my good buddy @al_jenkins in the suit in the first pic, and I’m inside the beast in the second. This project, about a giant mutated eel, started as a crowdfunding campaign to build and document the process of making an old school, Toho style creature suit, and grew into the production of a short film that went on to stomp its way around film festivals. It was the first monster film I made, getting to do it with friends and one the most enjoyable projects ever. Life’s better with monsters in it. #filmmaking #monsters #kaiju #monster #practicalfx #creaturefx #monsterfx #monstersuit #horror #horrormovies #swansea #behindthescenes #horrormovie #kickstarterfilm #filmproject #shorts #shortfilm
