When David Peabody first visited Craggy Range at the tender age of 12, and experienced the vineyards and winery first-hand, he instantly knew it was something he wanted to be involved in. But when he told his grandfather, Terry Peabody, of his aspirations a few years later, he had to prove he was serious.

David accepted the challenge, starting from the ground up, taking on roles across the vineyard, winery, sales, and marketing teams. Today, he's Executive Director, marking the third generation of the Peabody family's involvement in the winery's governance - a milestone that reflects the family's commitment to a 1,000 year trust, ensuring Craggy Range remains under family stewardship for generations to come.

Later this week, David, along with Chief Winemaker Ben Tombs @tenbombs, are heading to the beautiful Napa Valley to celebrate over 25 years of incredible winemaking with some of our alumni winemakers, cellarhands and interns. They will raise a glass to the memories and friendships forged over a quarter century, and dig out a few stories that have shaped our legacy along the way.

From the @craggyrange archives... the Thai community have played a major part in the nurturing of the @gimblettgravels vines, and still are in the vineyards working tirelessly to this day.....The image is 1999 , shot on my trusty @hasselblad camera i have had since I was 16yrs old.... and developed in my home darkroom.. the process i do miss but also enjoy the convenience of digital.. a medium I swapped to in 2005 ... @hawkesbaywine @crmaryjeanne @david.peabody @crdpeabody @joannedeitch @frances__frances__ @hamlet2661 @nzwinegrowers

This week marks a milestone in Craggy Range history as we reflect on the grand opening of our Giants Estate on 25th January 2003.

Despite the unseasonably chilly weather, it was a truly unforgettable occasion, featuring inspiring words from Sir Edmund Hillary and breathtaking performances by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Tim Finn, and the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra.

Established in 1998 by the Peabody family with the bold ambition to be counted among the world’s greatest wineries, Craggy Range is guided by a 1,000-year family trust. This enduring legacy compels us to always look to the future - cultivating not just for today, but for generations to come.

A remarkable photographer, storyteller, and friend to the Peabody family, and all of us at Craggy Range, Richard’s contribution to our region is immeasurable. We are so proud to see him recognised with this well-deserved achievement.
